ALCS Game 4 lineups: Tigers vs. Yankees

No chance from the usual lefty lineup for the Tigers, which in this case is a good thing. Omar Infante is back in the lineup after suffering a right thumb contusion when he made an attempt at that Mark Teixeira single up the middle with two outs in the ninth.

On the Yankees side, Alex Rodriguez is again out, and now so is Curtis Granderson. Brett Gardner replaces him in center, with Ichiro and Nick Swisher on the corners.

We need to find a way to beat CC or Andy. That’s a formidable task. Go Tigers!!

Neither ARod nor Grandy in the lineup as expected.. Swisher is back

Ichiro-Swisher-Cano-Tex-Ibanez-Chavez-Martin-Gardner-Nunez

Posted before the update.

So nervous!

Above should read “No change…..

Good catch. Quite a difference between “no change” and “no chance” in that sentence. :-)

If they get to CC early the Yanks we mail it in.

I wonder how much effect these sporadic starts will have on Max.
.
I’ve been watching winning Yankee teams for over 50 years but I’ve never seen one with a lineup quite like the ones they’re running out there this week. Possibly the most striking thing about this series up till now.

3 games with 6 or more days of rest:5.27 1.537 13 SO 13.1 IP. Still 1-0. He is top 10 in RS in MLB

Eddie Yost RIP

Rain coming from the southwest, just hitting Toledo now.

Supposedly over CopA around 10 PM

Last night, Berry tried to get on base with a bunt( scored as sacrifice, it was not). Vs CC you would expect him to repeat that play ( trying to slow down the ball this time)

Berry got on base with a double and an error on Chavez. Since he’s not in the lineup tonight, good luck with that.

My bad. I had in my mind the proposed lineup and not the real one

The pre-game show has been all about A-rod mostly and the speculation the Yankees are trying to dump him. I hope this series ends tonight.

Check it out: it’s raining, pouring, etc.

We’re not going to play this one tonight.

oof yea its questionable for sure – weren’t we talking about this yesterday ;)

I’ve been waiting all stinking day and I dont know if my nerves can take it. Not o mention the way the Yankees used their pen last night it benefits them to skip today. Maybe CC wouldn’t need them, but still.

It’s too bad there isn’t a provision in baseball where certain games in serious question because of rain can’t be started an hour a head of time. I know this would be a nightmare issue but it beats being rained on in the 7th inning of a post-season game.
Another rule change I would like to see is the removal of all the on deck batter paraphernalia in the on deck circle. That is possibly a career ending injury in waiting.
Have the batter go up with a donut on his own bat and be required to be holding it all times. No secondary weighted bats or other crap.

The Avila play?

That’s what got me thinking about it. I don’t like the on deck circle being placitcized either. I remember seeing Avila slip on one in the rain once. Minor changes that can eliminate serious injuries. And then we can start talking about splintered bats. Everyone knows already how that is going to end up. MLB is very good at making money but not very good with common sense issues like these.

Has there been any announcement of what the strategy is on the delay? Poor fans sitting dry and watching a dry empty field. Must be frustrating. Boy are they going to be miserable later tonight, if, they do play.

In Saint Louis they will resume around 8 PM , supposedly

Wouldn’t a roof on the CoPa be nice?

no, baseball should be played outside

I’m sooooooo bummed!

Game 4 will be played on Thursday at 4:07 pm. Tickets for #Tigers home Game #2 of the #ALCS will be honored for tomorrow’s game.

it’s official – the game cancellation should mean only 1 game for CC. Kinda gotta smile because some people expected this but obviously not Yankees management. I guess what goes around comes around.

I feel ad for those people who have ticket for tonight and won’t be able to go tomorrow because it’s a day game. Pretty crappy!

Yeah, and some people travel a great distance, too. Also the folks with game five tickets would be pushed back to Friday. Nothing you can do, though. MLB made the right call.

cheap tix for people who can go tomorrow tho ;)

Strange weather year, from a forecast standpoint. There have been a number of times this year when I’ve planned an activity and, in checking the weather in advance, the forecast for 10 days out would change entirely over the course of the 10 days, then end up as having the early forecast the correct one after all.

I’ve never heard of a radar screen being shown on a scoreboard, much less having fans booing it.

“Game called based on forecast “in effort to preserve the integrity of an uninterrupted nine-inning game” why is different for Saint Louis?

I understand the mentality of Gene Lamont and the caution he used when holding Infante on the Garcia single with Miggy coming up.
BUT
Every run counts so much in post season. Especially late in the game with our bull-pen.
If we are presented with a run we should take it.

It looked to me like Gene put up the stop sign before the ball even got to Granderson. Once you stop a runner, it’s darned near impossible to get him going again if the outfielder doesn’t field it cleanly. I still say the percentages were more in favor of Infante scoring than Miggy driving him in. Seems it’s no big deal since we won, but I think it is. We had the Santiago and Cabrera plays in last year’s ALCS that were very damaging to our chances.

A story about the rainout that turns into a testament to Jim Leyland. I got a chuckle out of this one. I don’t think the team needs leadership to deal with a rainout, but it’s a slow news night.

The ESPN crew members ( spanish) have a great respect for Leyland but they did not like the reserves group presentation to avoid Valverde being booed. They said : “You dont want to be booed, perform”. ” “The fans paid and have the right to boo” “We have been booed”
