Cabrera up for Hank Aaron Award

Fans could debate all they wanted about Miguel Cabrera’s case for AL MVP, but they didn’t have a vote. They do, however, have a vote for Major League Baseball’s Hank Aaron Award, which goes each year to each league’s most outstanding offensive player.

Voting begins today at MLB.com and runs through Oct. 16, with fans selecting one hitter from each league. Each team has one nominee. Cabrera, of course, is one of them, as is Mike Trout, Josh Hamilton, Joe Mauer and Josh Hamilton.

Voting results will be combined with those from a Hall of Fame panel that includes Tony Gwynn, Paul Molitor, Paul Molitor, Joe Morgan and Robin Yount. The two league winners will be announced during the World Series.

The key point to remember here is that the criteria is strictly offense — no overall WAR, no defense, no special credit given to one’s defensive position. To call a Triple Crown “cute” probably won’t fly here, but Trout’s ability to create runs with his baserunning is still a major factor.

I’m sure the voters for these various awards will justify their way out of giving Cabrera his just recognition. They are all just ennamored with everything Trout. I’m sure they will figure out a way to give Trout the silver slugger at 3rd and every other position.

Not paranoid, are we? ;-)

Me no……just experience!

Is this one vote per fan or one of those where you vote till your parents kick you out of the basement?

The lineup vs LHP and RHP is the same but for Berry and Avila. So Laird and Garcia are not to blame but: ( LHP/RHP)
Jackson:289 856 /305 856
Berry : 214 594 /268 704
Miguel 314 913 4 HR/335 1027
Fielder 289 808/ 328 1027
Young: 308 833/ 247 649
Dirks 274 751 /336 889
Avila 176 539/262 796
Laird 204 622/ 382 828
Peralta:214 692/ 249 688
Infante 328 900/ 226 570
Garcia:333 745/ 294 588
Jackson , Peralta and Laird have inverted splits.
Dirks, Berry and Fielder bat like LHB are supposed vs LHP.
Because he is without protection vs LHP Miguel lost contact and power .
Infante does not do well batting 9th.
Garcia and Laird are the only players different vs LHP and they do better than they LH counterparts.Them ,Infante , Cabrera and Young are the threats vs LHP And even Miguel is diminished

Tonight’s lineup: Jackson 8, Berry 7, Cabrera 5, Fielder 3, Young dh, Dirks 9, Peralta 6, Avila 2, Infante 4. Scherzer
