OK –Omar–slow down just a bit.
Cabby–just go out and have fun
DY–keep taking a few pitches
Jhonny–try to go RF-you are a DP machine right now
GMoney—fire these guys up
Drew–don’t throw Mauer outside and don’t throw Morneau in

Speaking of slides, anyone remember that great takeout slide by Marcus Thames in ’06? Not sure if we won the game becasue if it directly or not but I remember winning that game and that being key.

Yeah. Without looking it up (cuz that’s no fun), it came in July against the White Sox and Kenny Rogers was pitching. I think we won it 2-1. A lot of noise was made about it “sending a message” to the Sox.

Well the Tigers hitters had quit a bit of trouble with these pitchers last weekend, so we’ll see I guess.
.
I was just watching MLB channel and dd not see all of this but they were talking about Miggy and the triple crown, and MVP. Gammons is on the Trout bandwagon. Talking about how while what Miggy is fine and having a pretty good season, Trout is head and shoulders above Miggy because of his defensive skills, war , blah blah blah. (subjective stats by the way), he scores more runs (well Miggy drives him in) its easier to hit in Comerica than angel stadium (comerica is so hitter friendly).
.
It’s interesting that when I hear coaches and former layers discuss it, they say Miggy. When I hear reporters (especially the stat geek ones) they are ll in love with Trout and have been ringing his bell since before he played a game. Unfortunately it’s the later that vote. When Miggy got screwed out of it in 2010 it was because he didn’t go to the playoffs was the excuse, same for Magglio in when he batted 363. Don’t get me wrong I think that Trout is awesome, but Miggy is Miggy!

Liked your points and analysis. I particularly agree with you about Trout. He is “awesome.” But Miggy is better and has proven his worth, particularly in the stretch run. Moreover, Miggy has had a tremendously positive impact on the Tigers and the D.

I think Miggy will get the MVP shaft due to the group that does the voting. It will be a shame, too. I am glad that he plays in the D and is able to see how we here appreciate him. He is part of the reason 3 million fans attended this year. Here’s hoping he gets back to hitting homers tonight. Go Tigers!

Any award that’s voted on by non-participants holds no water for me. I tend to ignore this nonsense because of it. It’s like the ASG, where Cabrera doesn’t get voted as starter. Or college football polls.
I saw Trout play about a dozen games this year and he didn’t do much, so he doesn’t get my vote. Makes about as much sense as the current system.

Whoever I was talking to a few days ago about the Saturday blackout (was that you, Bob?), the game is being shown here. I half expected it since the Tigers are now in first place and Verlander is pitching.

Yes .. that was me.

Diamond got hit with power by righties like Rios, Youkilis, Viciedo September 16th- and that wasn’t in chicago, either. We got this tonight!!

Diamond shut us down on 4 hits and 2 runs this past Sunday. You sure we got this? :-)

trying to be positive here, rich! More seriously though, our batters just saw this guy – we all know that favors the batters. Also, it was pretty cold sunday – and i thought i heard miggy complaining about how cold it was the other night. IDK, i just got one of those hunches we’re going to run into some balls tonight. hopes and dreams sold here.

Stay focused. Games are not at the Twinkie Dome. We like Target Field!!!!!!!!!!
Are we ready to make adjustments against these first two Twins’ starters?? We are 46-32 since July 1st. Strong second half. Another stat since July 1st. We have five starters who have struck out ten batters or more in a single game. How many teams can claim that??? Go Drew Smyly. Just give us five innings!! Go Tigers!!!

Well, my first comment after yesterday, did not see the game so can’t say much, other than even though it took 5 errors from the other guys to win I”ll take it – I surely did not expect the Sox to lose again, so terrific that we got that W to get 2 games up. I was not a fan of the Santiago pinch hit either – he is rusty, not his fault on that point, plus if they stay tied I want Dirks in there right now, he is too valuable to pull. Don Kelly sure does find ways to get into the mix of things – just like last years playoffs! Sounds like Fister was just amazing until the end.. As far as who votes on MVP – keep in mind these are the same guys who went a different route than usual last year and voted in a pitcher – you are right though, this is a very divided issue on who deserves it. Miggy is just overall special, he should win it hands down – we don’t have him this season we are making plans to watch season premieres next week instead of possibly playoffs.

Big time for us – haven’t done well away from home, time to take it up a notch boys.

The Tigers’ starters who give the team the best chance to win, according to quality start percentages: 1.Verlander .75; Sanchez .70 (.74 Miami, .64 Detroit); 3.Fister .68; 4.Scherzer .65; 5. Porcello .43; and, 6. Smyly .41.

DOK…I am with you. 5 solid innings from Smyly would be a huge positive for the team Cannot realistically expect more out of Smyly, but would love to be surprised. Then turn it over to the pen and hold on.

The key tonight for us will be the bullpen. Smyly is unlikely to go past 6, and that’s if he is pitching well.
Any reports on Max’s degree of strain? If it is a typical grade 1 strain he could well be back for the playoffs (fingers crossed).
Hard to believe we are where we are right now.
Avila put together a damn good at bat last night.
Has Peralta hit a breaking ball in the last 3 weeks?
Time for Delmon to heat up again.

Cafardo had Miguel as MVP beginning september

Well this is not the time to use the bullpen.
Smyly was fine.
coke coming in here is not a good idea. Leyland is so fixated on his perceptions of “who” players are. He has Smyly typecast and is still controlling his pitch count this late into the season.
I don’t like this move.

I think it has more to do that Smyly isn’t streatched out, don’t you? He’s been in the pen for quite a while.

OK Coke did well I stand corrected. So far!
If he gets through the next inning Leyland is a genius.

They really got to try hitting them somehwere else but to the 3rd baseman or shortstop.

Man—undisciplined hitting by our guys. We sure have trouble against soft toss southpaws don’t we?
Miggy made a mistake there but he needs to get over it quickly.

Thanks Phil (and JL).
