Wednesday’s lineup: Tigers vs. Blue Jays

Alex Avila returns to the starting lineup after Tuesday off, an interesting decision with Justin Verlander (whom Avila almost always catches) pitching tomorrow afternoon and Aaron Laffey proving particularly tough to left-handed hitters this year. Whether that’s a nod to Avila, who had a comfort level catching Sanchez during his first couple starts for Detroit is an interesting question. Avila is batting ninth.

Andy Dirks and Jeff Baker remain in the corner outfield spots, meaning another day out of the lineup for Brennan Boesch, who hasn’t played since a pinch-hitting appearance Saturday against the Orioles.

TIGERS

  1. Austin Jackson, CF
  2. Omar Infante, 2B
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 3B
  4. Prince Fielder, 1B

Alex should be batting in front of Baker for 2 reasons. a) Alex is hitting better. Jeff Baker had a double on the 19th…but other than that he hasn’t hit outside of the first game he played with DET on august 8th. b) Alex might have to run if he is in batting 9th (AJ, OI, MC, PF coming up). Alex might be the slowest guy on the team.

and on the other side of things: tonight is a big night for mr. sanchez. huge. And for that matter the team. We need this kid to turn it around and play strong….Doug is not dealing right now.

Avila:vs LHP 200
Baker. vs LHP: 259 But as you say it was before going to Detroit
1 for 3 . HR against Laffey
Dirks and his avg vs LHP:237 ,perhaps, was a better option for the 9th spot.
Miguel is 2 for 10 vs Laffey
Delmon 278 1 HR 2 RBI.

Turner already allowed a HR. 2-0. End of first.

In the show “The Franchise,” the Marlins team president said that in Turner, they were getting a pitcher that was big league ready. Makes one happy to have DD in charge here.

whoever is running the marlins is making some of the worst choices i have ever seen. What FA pick ups did they make this offseason that WORKED OUT?

The best move was a player changing name

I know Ozzie Guillen made his old team better by subtraction

Fun game to watch. Ozzie gets tossed, Jim Joyce playing peacemaker. Marlins argue a Joyce call, then D-Backs argue a Joyce call, prompting Mark Grace to say “what’s Joyce gotta do, save another life???”

hahahah! hey regardless how many lives he saves, he did kick the shit outta that kids perfect game!

Funny.

Evan, El Tigre and Rich.

Turner 3-2 down, reached the 5th. His opponent is making his MLB debut
Just batted : Gorkys Hernández: 174 avg

AL ABQ pitched well last night – but no word on a call up…. when do people think he will have a call up? What’s up with them wanting him to pitch longer into games (e.g. 2.2 innings)? What kind of role do they envision him taking at the MLB level – long reliever?

And what about Duane Below’s performance down in AAA – ROUGH!

Dan asked the same sometime ago. My guess then and now is they are trying to build strengthen:

The best move would be after august 31. He will be elegible to the playoff and create another spot in the roster.

“If you’ve got a real top pitcher, I think they need to pitch, especially the young guys — they need to get innings under their belt.”JL

6 inning 3 runs on 4 hits. 5 SO . HR. Until now beaten by a rookie making his debut.

Putting us in the odd position of hoping Sanchez pitches as well as Turner today.

Crappy hitting again. Our RHB are dreadful and were brutalin the 8th.

Valverde in,, fingers crossed and eyes closed and trying to remember how to pray.
