Alburquerque headed to Hens

Not exactly breaking news, but it’s a mile post on the road back for Al Alburquerque to the Tigers bullpen. His minor-league rehab assignment has been moved from Class A Lakeland to Triple-A Toledo.

Alburquerque, working his way back from elbow surgery last December, gave up two runs on three hits in his first rehab appearance for the Flying Tigers, then tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings on two hits in three outings after that. Nine of the 10 outs he recorded in Lakeland were strikeouts. Five of the six balls put in play against him went for base hits. He walked one batter.

Alburquerque has about 19 days left of possible rehab time before the Tigers have to make a decision on whether to activate him. Whether Detroit uses all of those days isn’t clear.

RT @BBritten_Tigers: Tigers have reinstated Dirks from DL today. Club designated Don Kelly for assignment today. #tigers

And Donny Kelly has been DFA’d
One more to go.

Let’s hope Dirks can help us out. They should be batting him 2nd or 5th IMO.

OH WOW i thought he’d be down there for another game or two.
Hey what about D. Schlereth? What is he doing?

Daniel Schlereth has been assigned to Lakeland to begin an injury rehab assignment today. #tigers

Tonight’s lineup: Jackson 8, Berry 7, Cabrera 5, Fielder 3, Boesch dh, Dirks 9, Avila 2, Santiago 6, Infante 4. Sanchez is starting.

Kelly was probably first because of the righty-lefty situation but it does leave a question mark about who can go in defensively in several positions if the need arises. And they better hope there are no more injuries.

Omar and Ramon can play 3rd, SS and 2nd. When Dirk’s does not start, he will be the defensive replacement in right.

It had to be Kelly at this time, no question. If he can clear the AL, an NL team would love to have him. I’ll save the goodbyes until he’s actually gone, you never know.
Anyone notice that our two new fathers, Peralta and Coke, have struggled since the blessed event?

DY not playing. Dirks brought up abruptly. DY on waivers with a deal brewing?

Or JL and DD just shaking things up?

DY had 37 rbis last Aug/Sept. He has an outside chance for 20/80/.280. Who on our team other than Cabby and Prince has a better chance of doing that?? He always bats #5 against lefties.

Saw the Dodgers just landed Blanton on a waiver deal.

With Valverde, Benoit, Dotel, Villarreal, Al A, Marte, Below, Coke, Downs, and maybe Schlereth and Balester in the bullpen after Sept 1 st, we should avoid overworking any members of our bullpen.
