Forget the L/R thingy and just bat Omar 2nd. Bat Berry 9th.
Give a stroke to Omar and let Berry know his place.

I’d put Alex in the 9 spot.

Yippie another night of watching Alex weakly ground out to the right side and stranding runners.

I see Jason’s tweet that they are working on bunting with Q…..I don’t know what happened to it he seemed to be pretty good at first and seems to have lost his technique or willingness.

Well, I don’t think it’s his technique……….

All I know is that he can’t get a bunt down to save his life.

Amen to the idea of having Infante hit second and Berry in the 9th spot.

We seem to have traded away two of our top offseason trade chips for a pitcher who will make about a dozen starts and a guy who will hit ninth.

Hope we get a better effort and outcome tonight, Soxs back in first.

I’m sick of hearing about the Indians. Just beat ’em.

Jhonny just had twins. He needs to hit some doubles on the field.

Asdrubal hit Miguel in the face

Well the first inning started out promising but not to get 2 runs a tad disappointing. Come on Max!

Today will be bench clearing brawl.

Max is struggling big time with his location….. Walk in front of a homer hurts.

Max certainly seems to be struggling.

That is why they needed another pitcher.

Well the pen I think will be working early tonight. Max might be able to get out of his jams but his pitch count will probably be high.

Well those hitters we saw for a week and a half have disappeared in this series so far.

Does anyone think they lose their ICUs against mediocre pitching sometimes?

My stupid iPad spell corrected focus inti ICUs ?

Immediately, I thought: Intensive Care Unit?

Tiger hitters have quit? This 4th inning will be the test for Max. He has to find his “stuff.”

Bases loaded nobody out 1 run……..where did our hitters go?

Hitters well until BB and JP. Bad luck with the strong hit by DY

Bad luck or poor base running?

It seemed to strong to score

Now, that was bad running (for second time) And he scored.
It is a new trend in baseball running to third with grounders to SS. Last night , Ichiro did the same

Oh Austin?

Avila. Ran twice to third with grounders.

That SO was worth the ticket

Well I really didn’t think Max had a chance to get through 7, not necessarily because he would give up a lot, but he seemed to lack control and was throwing a lot of pitches. Nice work.

Nice play by Benoit.

Max has shown a heckuva lot of character tonight. Very impressive and made huge pitches when he was struggling.
Boesch–so undisciplined. Could be great if he could “work a pitcher” and be a proactive hitter rather than reactive.
Berry-hit to left field young man. That works just fine. Yes, he should have scored easily on Delmon’s clutch (clutch!) hit. And what was Avila doing on the grounder to short?
So many bad at bats sprinkled in at times when the table was set.
Infante hasn’t helped his average but he plays the game properly. Especially with men on base. I always wondered what the relationship was with JL though. Sometimes the skipper says the inexplicable: Leyland said he does not consider Infante a big base stealer. “You’re talking about average speed that probably picked his spots,”. What’s the point in saying something like that to the media?
Where was Dirks tonight? Twin bill and not in the lineup either game.
Castellanos continues to hit.
Cleveland announcers are as bad (well almost) as Hawk and really boring when their team is behind and apparently out of the game.
Valverde for the famous 3 run save?

Dirks out of lineup. Soreness

3h JWagnerBlade ‏@jwagnerblade
RT @Chris_Iott: Andy Dirks removed from @MudHens lineup. Nothing up, I’m told. Just a day off. A bit sore. Should be back Thursday.

General soreness, not the achilles.

During last night’s game, the camera panned over to the dugout and Miggy was having a long chat with Omar. Supposedly, Omar is very quiet. Jim sure does have his favorites. He makes me sick, sometimes.

A venezuelan ex MLB player commented that he talked to Samuel during the off season of 2006 about Infante. He asked him to help Infante because he is very introverted , shy,and probably that was the cause of his problems. But suddenly, Infante was out of Detroit .So he could not help him.
Morosi twitted today that a scout said that Infante was the only one grinding his AB and making DP for the Marlins.

All’s Well That Ends Well

Dirks was sore according to the TV crew.

A strong throw , and earlier could help avoid that kind of close outs. A runners with the speed , hustling is was Damon did, could reach safe.

It looks like Max is struggling then you look up and he’s walking off after seven strong. Excellent outing, and a good job between him and Avila to recognize Brian Runge calling the outside pitch off the plate all night.
Berry shortened up that stroke a little and it paid dividends. Doing a little Johnny Damon on them with those punches to the left side.
Surprised Berry didn’t score on the DY single. Delmon probably was too, cost him an RBI.
The bad news is that in our five games in Cleveland, we’ve had LOB of 10, 10, 10, 9, and 10. That’s ridiculous. I think that has to do with lack of patience. Also, that ballpark looks smaller from inside than it really is. Trying for big flies too much?
Good news, knocked them four back and created a chance to actually win the series with Verlander going. We still have to score some runs, though.

You know Max pitched well because you didn’t hear that drum much tonight, did you?

I think we still need a more reliable hitter in the 5 hole, but have no idea who it would be.

Supposedly they are not set. Still in the market

One could make a case that upgrading the #5 hitter was of more importance than upgrading 2ndbase, if that was indeed an upgrade. We’ve had a ton of rallies die this year with the 5-spot. It’s been a large, but relatively little talked about, problem.

Well, good evening to all the Tiger guys and gals this evening. At 3-2, I figured we’d go down 4-3. Thankfully, Max found the Heater, and we tacked on a couple more runs. I kept looking for the “Coffin hit”, but we just couldn’t come up with the knockout punch. On paper, the Indians should be way behind, but that bullpen at the end keeps them nippin’ at our heels. with JV on the mound tomorrow, we have a good chance to finally take a series from these pests. Dan is very correct in that thier announcers go into whine mode when behind. I don’t remember it being that bad in the past. After digesting my thoughts on the game, here’s my three things that I liked about this evening’s performance:
1. Fielder’s SAC Fly in the top of the fifth. He was determined to get the ball up in the air, and almost hit the ball off the ground to do so. This put the lead back to two, and perhaps made Max relax a little more, especially when facing 9 lefty’s again. A little thing. Biggy is doing everything to help win, except what he was signed to do. Kind of ironic.
2. Will have to recognize QB, who must have read Dan’s blog over the last 24 hours. A good approach at the plate to get three hits and 2 rbi’s, but no strikeouts.
Still need to utilize his speed every chance they have.
3. We had more walks than strikeouts. That would be a great stat to research. I’d bet we haven’t done that a whole lot this year; Delmon walks for the second time in less than three weeks. OBP is going sky high.

In all reality, we should have scored 7-8 runs. I’ll take one more than my opponent any time. Kudos also to Alex, on base three times, and a nice peg to throw out Choo in the first. Is this the start of a wonderful relationship? Say yes, Alex. My wife thinks you’re the biggest “hunk” on the team. Good night to all of our happy bloggers.

Brennan just signed on with Scott Boras quite recently. Thought that was interesting. Other than that, the Tigers left so many runners stranded for the 2nd straight night. Sometimes, we get all upset about guys making a boneheaded play or an error, but look at Cleveland tonight. Without those errors, we may not have won. I wish they’d make up their minds who is going to play for the remainder of the season. Max started off rough but didn’t give in. That was crucial.

Regarding QB’s speed. To whom much speed is given, much speed is expected. Good game tonight.

Anybody besides El Tigre see A**drubal Cabrera elbow Miggy to the ground after that tag at second? I don’t know if that was a playful love tap or what.
I just remember A**drubal pounding on Sheffield’s head while Sheff was being held during that brawl in Cleveland in 2008. Not cool.

I saw it too….

does anyone know Vmart’s timeline for return and if that has any effect on DD and the trade value of Delmon Young?

For sure. What was weird was that it in no way looked playful.
We’ll know more tomorrow when JV faces him in the 1st inning.

It began the previous game. They screamed at each other. The broadcast for the Indians showed it just after the slide in second.
