Wednesday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Twins

Today marks the start of five straight games against left-handed starters heading into the break for the Tigers. Expect to see a lot of Ryan Raburn for the rest of the week. He’s batting second tonight against Brian Duensing, with Quintin Berry getting the night off. Brennan Boesch stays in after his three-hit game last night.

On the Twins side, if the last two nights are a sign that the old Joe Mauer is back, then expect some very good at-bats between him and Justin Verlander. Mauer is 20-for-51 (.392) off Verlander with three doubles, three home runs and 10 walks off Verlander, including 6-for-14 the last two years. They haven’t met this year because Verlander hasn’t faced the Twins yet.

bewareof rever. Not only because he is the appointed Tigers killer but also the kind of player that could get the worst out from Justin ( remenber Gomes)

Beware of Revere

Trevor Plouffe too! Never heard of him til this year

Does it not seem like we are getting a lot of lefties in a row then a lot of righties in a row? This is a strange season.

Strange season in soooooooo many ways!

Yes, and it might be a good idea to count up the lefties we face in the next 81 games. It will be more than we did in the first half.

Going to game tonight against my better judgement. It’s 101 degrees right now and frankly I just don’t feel good about the outcome tonight Verlander not withstanding.

Somebody mentioned DY hitting good in front of Cabby. Well that really is the ideal spot for him. I’d hate to drop Miggy & Biggy 1 spot down to accommodate that though. I think we’re stuck with him being #5
Glad to see berry out. He’s fading. I don’t think he’s bunted or attempted a stolen base in over a week. So what’s the point??

Yeah, DOK and I have expressed similar sentiments about where DY might be more effective. Also feel you are right about Berry.Several folks have noted he still has value in situational roles. But, it was nice to see a guy with his kind of history get hot and find some kind of personal success.

Headed down raining is an understatement. Hail heavy rain and strong winds. Being pelted by hail as we speak.

Verlander vs Duensing. Our advantage. Play ball in twenty minutes. Go Tigers!!!!

No ball in 20 minutes I guarentee it

Blackburn has been optioned to Triple-A because of his performance on tuesday night….

Hey, Rich, I’m an accountant and I get to do this. Last year after 81 games 43-38. This year 39-42. With all the injuries and inconsistent hitting that’s not too bad. One day at a time and find a way to get better!!!!!!!! Oh, and another rain delay.

Answering to your question I quoted this on the previous post::@Tom_Gage

#Tigers hat trick of mediocrity: Finish first half with 39-42 record – 30-39 since 9-3 start – and they are 17-20 at home.

Turn the page on our first half. We are 0-0 in the second half. Play ball. Let’s get better.

They have string of games against the East. They have a positive record against them. So if they can keep it going

Rain delay. Before they started this homestand, and the way they were playing against Tampa, I hoped they could go 5-2, losing just one game to each of the Twins and KC. Well that bit the dirt. They are already 0-2. Even after that blog when Avila said they had to get serious. Not only has the 5th starter not panned out but they can’t seem to count on Fister either. Then Boesch said in a blog that he wasn’t going to waste any at-bats. Why wasn’t he saying this long ago? He nearly got himself sent to Toledo. If not for Dirks’ injury, BB might be in Toledo right now. Then there is the Avila playing hurt story. With all these LHP why isn’t Laird getting a few games? Do you really think JL will remember that DY’s best success last year was hitting in fron of Miggy? I could go on and on………………………….

Ditto, illinoifan. Same here. Day late and a dollar short.

To quote GK, “Amen” to both of you.

And from what I have read, I think a lot of posters are and have been on the “same page.”

Calming down, but still stuck in the car.

Are you talking about the rain or you???? What do you think, play two tomorrow???

Prediction if we play:
If Joe Mauer’s BA against Verlander is .363 at the end of the game—-we win this one.

Anybody have the weather report???

My highlight so far. Mario just explained WHIP to Rod!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
