Wednesday: Tigers at Indians

To quote Jim Leyland from today on Gerald Laird, “I’m proud of the fact that he wants to play, and I appreciate it. But common sense has to come into it. I think I would look like a fool to put him out there to start this game [the way he was running last night].”

Thus, Bryan Holaday’s first day in the big leagues will also be his first Major League start.

What do we know about Holaday?

248/.313/.627 Avg/OBP/OPS at Toledo.
And what really matters since he is a catcher:3 PB/24 SB/15 CS/38%. With 3 E in 35 games

Lineup looks good. I like the 2 speedier players up top in case a situation comes up with santiago batting and berry on base. Ramon can bunt to advance a runner satisfactory. One run at a time baby. Thats how good teams play.

We have #9 (day to day), #29 and #38 on our bench tonight. #29 bats right and plays the infield. #38 bats left and plays the outfield. We are ready to roll. By the way, did anyone ask who was going to play left field Saturday night, if Santos had bounced into a double play to end the ninth inning??

Worth, said Leyland in the postgame interview

Thanks, El Tigre.

posted this elsewhere, but with the addition of Ortega and Holaday, Tigers will have used 39 players this season. to compare, Indians have used 34, ChiSox 29.
.
organizational depth has pretty much been exhausted. they’re at a point where any additional help (other than return of injured players) will almost certainly come via waivers or trade. Red Sox (39) and Rays (37) have done a similar roster shuffle, but unlike Tigers, have remained above .500.

These teams have better depth than us. Right??

Unfortunately the change of scenery at Toledo is not helping Raburn being pinch hit last night for a guy hitting under 200 and not in tonights lineup.

Not injured???

Oh, lord have mercy, Brennan.

Sloppy team.

Terrific and error then a 3 run homer! Awesome Tigers are aweful.

Down 3-0 after 1 inning. Is this game over already? I didn’t see Boesch’s error. What was it? Just like Scherzer to serve up a homerun to a batter he never should have had to pitch to without that error. Now if they lose and KC wins, it is 4th place in the division.

What the Tigers need and this is easy to say is six or seven straight guys to get hits or walks with the last one a homer. Pow six or seven runs and then Max shuts them out.

I didn’t see the error but I did see the popu where he wasn’t looking at the ball off the bat like you should. Guess JL and LL can’t see this stuff from the dugout. Lord knows they probably don’t use the computer or video.
Rich—you are right—you can’t write this stuff any better (worse) than what is proven every day.

JL said in the pregame, they dug out some video and Boesch’s swing & it is completely different from last year. Evidently, they finally thought to check it out last night or this morning.

Go Kelly! How many solo homers is that without anyone on base? Someone was keeping track.

Oh, no. Is Holaday another swing at the first pitch player?

Seeing the predictable 3 run homer after an error got me looking further on the lack of a HR with bases loaded currently 0 for 37.
We have 2 HR’s with a man on 3rd (only one on and 1st and 3rd) with no homers with runners on 2nd and 3rd.

Done with this for the night. Too frustrating to watch.

Can someone tell me why JL pulled Below after only 3 pitches got 2 batters out? And Cleveland with that heavily LH batting order? Nothing against Marte. But then JL has Coke warm up in the bullpen.

He had pitched on Sunday and Tuesday.

Yes, kathy, they finally noticed something about Boesch that most of us saw a while ago. Duhhhhh. Whose getting paid to run this team?

Nice diving catch by Berry. Would AJ have done that?

He wouldn’t have to.

Well, he might have. But, we wouldn’t want him doing that at this point with his injury almost healed. He probably would have let it drop.

The Boesch swing ought to be different, he injured himself with his swing. He needs to relearn at Toledo.
Berry, AJ , Kelly or Young until Dirks is back
