Thursday: Tigers at Red Sox

Apparently the Andy Dirks Achilles injury is more serious than a simple day off could remedy. He’s not in the lineup. Don Kelly takes his place. Brennan Boesch moves back to the second spot.

Maybe this will get BB hitting properly. Keep your top hand on the bat through the hitting zone Brennan and drive that ball

Danny Worth is being thrown to the wolves today.

The biggest thing I have noticed with BB is that his swing has gotten really long again. That is what happened the 2nd half of 2010 when he looked lost and got pull happy. The ability is there, no doubt. I really thought he was going to have a huge year. He needs to get it going soon and use his long reach to hit the balls to all fields.
We need the Good Max tonight. Badly.
Go Tigers.

Mad Max or Bad Max?
Well we can sum up quite a lot of the lack of success with the comied offensive performances of Boesch, avila, Peralta, Young and whoever has played 2nd base.
The strikeouts, DPs and men LOB by the above has been devastating.

we probably have some kind of record for leaving the bases loaded this year so far.

Our big artillery is hitting the target but the snipers aren’t sniping. That’s one of the chief dangers of trying to slug your way, but we keep going back to that strategy in this day and age. Kind of strange.

All above, excellent quotes. My fear is that we have our team. They just don’t hit good pitching, and good pitching is becoming more of a daily occurrence in the American League. Throw in key injuries to those who are hitting, and disaster becomes a a real possibility. Don’t want to sound alarmist, but we are getting very close to becoming a non factor this year.

Personally i dont see the tigers have a shot tonight with beckett on the mound and the red sox being white hot right now! i wrote all about this in my blog as well as a recap of wednesdays game so come check it out and enjoy!

would rather see Avila in the two slot

Tune it at 7 PM for the David Ortiz Show, with your host, Rrrrrod Allen!
Guys, ever consider just pitching around him while he’s locked in like this?

Too funny Rich I was just about to say the same thing about David Ortiz and Rod Allen. I alwys thought his Tori Hunter lovefeasts were hard to take, but the last three days have got me yelling at him through the television. I will be happy to get away from Fenway for a lot reasons but not having to hear about Ortiz will be huge!

I’ll be avoiding Rod & Mario, game is on MLB network tonight. Big Papi was a guest on there earlier. Entertaining guy.

Enjoy the weather guys, cause it’s cold in MI. 47 degrees and cold rain for the next 2 days. Shut the air off and almost need the furnace on.
JL is interviewing on the radio. Dirks is not good, they will check out Austin when they get back to Detroit, Fister is on the DL with the same injury. We just need more runs. etc.

Oh, well. Safe at first but umpire didn’t see it that way.

Does it surprise you anymore?

We’ll have to get used to it Kathy. We are not going to get any close calls. Bush league umping when they carry a grudge. they were shown up in the 1st game and they have paying back since. Bush.

Max is locating his fastball with promise. He’ll need the ump though. It’s a long game when you play in Beantown.

It’s the call on Boesch last inning Mario…….duh.
Good for you Tom for whatever you said.

Safe at the plate does it even matter anymore.

Looks like Mario and Rod are in a slump too. Like I said —it’s team wide!
I was going to criticize lamont for not sending Young but Allen did point out that the coach can’t see what’s going on down there. Actually a good point, for a change..
Typical of our season—man on 3rd (actually 2nd and 3rd) and no big hit-just a lazy fly–and typical, everything went wrong after the catch. A good throw, a slow runner and now we’re behind.
This game doesn’t feel real good at this point.

Didn’t feel that good prior to the start.

Our coaches are on a short leash now with these umps one wrong look and kabang.

Poor slide by Delmon. Not exactly his forte.

Boesch knew he was safe. Brookens will probably be the coach that gets fired. Andy VanSlyke, where are you?

The fact of the matter is I don’t know if it even matters anymore. The umps have made their decisions about what they want to happen so it’s no good even yelling anymore. Just need to get the hell out of town.

Typical lose out on a run and give up some.. Guess we got our answer bad Max?

Good for Prince
Sure, Quinton isn’t Jackson, at least this year’s version of Jackson. He’s more like Jackson in his sophmore year. Maybe this guy will strike out even more than Jackson did last year (that would be something), but I hope they give him a good chance. We haven’t had anyone with this kind of speed in years. Hoping he can make it.

Well- at least we have a lead. Now we need Max to start getting dominant. Whether he can against this lineup is questionable.
How do you get Delmon Young out?
a) put a man on base ahead of him
b) throw a strike
c) throw a ball
d) all of the above

How can they leave Alex in there. Come on. The guy might have a concussion.

The two out nobody on runs the Red Soxs have gotten in this series is uncanny, and strange.
As I’m typing this Avila gets hurt. I know catchers take their fair share of plunks, but doesn’t it seem Avila has an inordinate amount of clunks? Is there something he does? Very weird.

Getting G-Money may have been the best move DD made this off-season. I don’t consider him going after Prince—I think that was all Illitch.
