Tuesday: Tigers at Mariners

I think it’s safe to say that Andy Dirks batting second is now more than mixing up the lineup. He’s in there again today, and again playing in left, with Delmon Young as the designated hitter.

With Alex Avila off out with patella soreness in his left knee, Gerald Laird gets the start behind the plate, and Ryan Raburn (3-for-4 off Kevin Millwood, for what that’s worth) moves up to sixth in the lineup. Interesting call on Avila, especially with lefty Jason Vargas going for Seattle tomorrow night in the series finale.

TIGERS

  2. Andy Dirks, LF
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 3B
  4. Prince Fielder, 1B
  5. Delmon Young, DH
  6. Ryan Raburn, 2B
  7. Jhonny Peralta, SS
  8. Brennan Boesch, RF
  9. Gerald Laird, C

yea delmon and raburn can punish pitchers who put cabby and prince on base. psssh!

Delmon needs to get it going, DH or not. It’s his payday on the line. At least Raburn is playing a steady 2ndbase with his starts there and he’d been hitting 9th. We need production from the 5-hole.

Not sure why Jhonny never comes in above 7 – sure need a reliable AB behind the Big Two who lets face it will still be on base. Team is now last in MLB for doubles and stolen bases – sure leave a lot of people on 1st.
.
Two cases difficult to argue against is Dan’s about Ryan and Rich’s modern day use of bullpens.
Will be crazy to finish the season with Ryan still having one option remaining, though he sure is a frustrating player to manage as he keeps looking like he is breaking out only to then fall back the very next game. At least his defence is not shaky so his confidence must be OK.
The bullpen has a 5.18 ERA for late/close games for 3rd last in MLB. Never a better time to go with a different approach than setting and forgetting.

Avila has a sore left patella tendon according to Tom Gage.

After trolling the web and collecting millions of comments from Tiger fans, I’ve discovered what our problem is. Here’s the list:
.
1. Ryan Raburn
2. Lloyd McLendon
3. Jim Leyland
4. Brandon Inge
5. The continuing and mysterious absence of Bobby Higginson

I am not game to make even a good natured joke involving Brandon, particularly playing him this week and being well overdue for one of his ever diminishing hot streaks. :-)

I have said it before. We are not getting any production from the 5 hole. Yes, that is where VMart would be. So, if Jhonny is on a 10 game hot streak, why is Delmon batting 5th? Rich, your above list, if Leyland was #1, we would not have to worry about 2,3, and 4. I think I heard Higginson is starting a softball team called the new king and his court.

Bobby was always one of my all time favorites. Bu you know me. Tiger loyalty over talent. Bring back Mike Maroth,

Greg
