Wednesday: Tigers vs. Mariners

Leyland talked Tuesday night after giving Austin Jackson a night off Wednesday. However, he’s 3-for-10 lifetime off Felix Hernandez, which is pretty good as the Tigers go. I’m not sure if that’s the reason why Jackson is in there, but it can’t hurt. Don Kelly, who was going to start in Jackson’s place, starts in left field instead.

On the Mariners side, Casper Wells gets the start against old teammate Wilk. Jesus Montero is catching King Felix, with Miguel Olivo as the DH.

  1. Austin Jackson, CF
  2. Brennan Boesch, RF
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 3B
  4. Prince Fielder, 1B
  5. Delmon Young, DH
  6. Alex Avila, C
  7. Jhonny Peralta, SS
  8. Ramon Santiago, 2B
  9. Don Kelly, LF

P: Adam Wilk

  1. Dustin Ackley, 2B
  2. Brendan Ryan, SS
  3. Ichiro Suzuki, RF
  4. Justin Smoak, 1B
  5. Jesus Montero, C
  6. Alex Liddi, 3B
  7. Miguel Olivo, DH
  8. Michael Saunders, CF
  9. Casper Wells, LF

P: Felix Hernandez

Is the best lineup( but for the injured Dirks). They must proffit to break the Hernández streak against them. He is the unluckiest pitcher on earth

great lineup today – good offense good defense!

Best defense we can put out there with Wilk throwing groundballs. I look for a tight, low run game. Should be fun.

Morosi tweeted: Cabrera is on tweeter:@ogundameyi24

Someone commented earlier about Dirks. How long has it been? If it is nearing 2 weeks, why wasn’t he on the DL so they could get help from someone else?

Good question.

that was me! Hey if he had been put on the DL we could have grabbed a mudhen to replace him….but no….we had to just play RR and BI more!

Anybody else find it odd that after 17 games Austin Jackson and Prince Fielder have the same number of stolen bases? It isn’t like Austin hasn’t been getting on base (except this homestand). Any ideas why? Do you think he should attempt to steal more?

As far as I know, he has the green light. Maybe too many lefties out there?

Yes . And add that Jackson has more HRs than Fielder.
Probably becasue Boesch has been swinging at the first pitch so he had little chances to steal. After Boesch he must wait to avoid taking out the bat from Cabrera.
Concepción used to say that is easier to steal againt LHPs because you see wath are they doing .
He has 17 hits and 10 walks. 8 of the hits have been xB . So in a little more of 1/3 of his at bats( I dont have the stats for FC) he was already in 2b or farther

a little less , sorry

Some 60 comments on the Inge thread and very few about Brandon himself. Aren’t we just the iconoclastic group here. 🙂
It occurs to me that none of our hitters, that’s none, are hitting like they’re capable of. Before we get worried, let’s ask ourselves if we think that will continue. I don’t.

not even AJ? How about Laird?

Laird is not hitting like he’s capable of, if you get my drift. 😉

No question the team isn’t hitting. Trouble is I get to see a lot of the Rangers games and they offensively are no where near as one dimensional winning games whether they hit or not continually pressuring the pitcher and defense.
Hard for our guys not to press and then get in ruts.

There’s another example of miserable hitting. First inning, bases loaded and they left Felix off the hook. Now you just watch how sharp he probably pitches the rest of the game. Never seems to fail.

and now Wilk can’t pitch. (groan)

4-0. Is this game lost already? To a team that lost 3 straight at home to the White Sox over the weekend?

Next time around do we start Wilk or Weber, if that is our choice?? Weber has a 8-1 GO/AO tonight but he had 15 Ks @ Toledo in two games. What’s the latest on Luis Marte??

There is no hitting and no starting pitching on this team and they were picked to walk away with the Division and possibly the WS?? There is something wrong besides the couple of injuries here!
