Tigers send four to minor league camp

Waiting for word from the Tigers on Miguel Cabrera’s condition this morning, but in other news, the team sent out four more position players. Jerad Head, Bryan Holaday, Eric Patterson and Matt Young were all assigned to minor league camp.

None of the four were expected to contend for a spot on the Opening Day roster, though Patterson made an early splash with his two-homer game March 9. His playing time had diminished in the days since. Patterson finished up his big-league camp going 6-for-18 with a double, a triple, the two homers and four RBIs.

Patterson, Head and Young are all expected to head to Triple-A Toledo and comprise a veteran presence in the Mud Hens lineup. Holaday presents an interesting situation, having spent the whole season at Double-A Erie last year. The Hens will likely have Omir Santos back, but they’ve been known to platoon catchers there.

We wait with bated breath.

I hope Miggy gets through this OK physically but also mentally. He is a pure ballplayer and will probably be just fine but it is hard to keep your chin down on grounders after something like that. Like I said—the same thing could have happened at 1st.
