Monday: Tigers vs. Blue Jays

Prince Fielder gets the day off ahead of the Tigers’ bus ride to Jupiter tomorrow morning. Don Kelly starts at first base and bats cleanup (this might be a good time to remind folks that batting order isn’t a big deal in spring training).

Ryan Raburn gets the start at DH, with Brandon Inge starting at second base for the second time in three days. Cabrera gets his third straight start at third. Ramon Santiago earns his first start of the spring at short.

Good news if you’re at work today: The game is being broadcast on radio — 97.1 FM in Detroit, MLB Gameday Audio online or on your phone.

Don Kelly batting cleanup! When the Tigers first signed Fielder, I predicted Mr. Leyland would still have Kelly batting third, just to drive us up a wall here and there. I missed it by one lineup spot!

the skip, from time to time, will place a replacement player in the lineup in the exact same location as the player they are replacing would have been in the lineup. I assume his logic is “oh well i don’t want to mess up my lineup and maybe this guy will bat like whomever he replaced” – and sometimes it does work. However, it ALWAYS drives nearly every tiger fan up the wall.

I know…it’s fun to play “think along with Jim….”

excited to see Collin Balester, David Pauley and Adam Wilk! Oh yeah and that verlander guy too :p

we def. need either Pauley or Balester to contribute to this team in a meaningful way this year.

Yes, Balester (who I have not seen pitch) and Pauley (used poorly last Summer) better step up with guys like Below, Villarel and Wilk knocking at the door. I like Below as a long reliever a lot, he has some excellent performances last year.

Well that answered that question about Pauley! Starting to think it wasn’t the skippers fault his numbers stunk last year….

eh balester looked OK – lots of strikes I like that.

anyone know if there are any minor league options left for pauley?

Just renewed my mlb audio subscription. Can’t wait to hear Dan & Jim again.

hey so did I! Just now (1:16pm) they (dan and jim) just pretend like it’s logical to put Kelly in the cleanup spot.

Delmon stand up double!

danny worth playin some great D!

Pauley and Balester are out of options. As are Clete Thomas and Don Kelly. Kelly isn’t going anywhere but there are some crucial decisions to be made with the other three. Dirks has 2 options left so they could ride with Clete and save him from the waiver wire. IMO Pauley and Balester are fighting for ONE job.
Believe it or not I think Raburn theoretically has an option left if I remember rightly.

Yes, he has one. That keep him trade bait

Balester has pitched awesome this spring so far. He is my sleeper pick to have a break out year. His curve ball breaks hard and is an outstanding out pitch. If he continues to throw strikes he could be Verlanderish…out of the pen!

Pauly has struggled but its early in the spring.

I’m pretty sure Balester is already on the team unless he gets injured or suddenly loses his stuff. I see Pauley as fighting with one of the 5th starter candidates for a final relief spot. It figures to be a little used spot so he may make it if they don’t want to put one of the youngsters there.
