Sunday: Tigers vs. Braves

The Tigers usually like to trot out as many regulars as possible for the Grapefruit League home opener. Today, they have something that looks close to an Opening Day lineup:

  1. Austin Jackson, CF
  2. Brennan Boesch, RF
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 3B
  4. Prince Fielder, 1B
  5. Delmon Young, LF
  6. Alex Avila, C
  7. Jhonny Peralta, SS
  8. Andy Dirks, DH
  9. Ryan Raburn, 2B

Pitchers: Max Scherzer, Duane Below, Jose Valverde, Octavio Dotel, Darin Downs, Matt Hoffman.

  1. Tyler Pastornicky, SS
  2. Martin Prado, LF
  3. Matt Diaz, RF
  4. Stefan Gartrell, DH
  5. Ernesto Mejia, 1B
  6. David Ross, C
  7. Brandon Hicks, 3B
  8. Drew Sutton, 2B
  9. Luis Durango, CF

P: Randall Delgado, Julio Teheran, Jairo Asencio, Jaye Chapman, J.J. Hoover.

With Santiago in 2b would be the best lineup .

Ramon brings superb D, infield stability and a different dynamic to the lineup but Raburn will be given every chance to show he can handle the job he was groomed for initially. While I think the world of Ramon I am enough of a realist to know that Raburn is management’s preference to win that job. A guy who might be able to hit in the high .200’s and drive in 80 runners can look real good manning that position, if he can turn the DP.
I don’t think Brandon has a real chance to beat out either guy above. Kudos for his efforts and tenacity but he just simply is not gonna bring enough up to the plate.

Cabrera is looking lean and mean, like a third baseman:

Broken link above – sorry! : )

I hope santiago is playing 2b on opening day tho. Doesn’t look like Inge is going to out bat anyone this ST. Which begs the question what will happen to him once he doesn’t win the backup 2B job.

I think Inge makes the team, but they really need to get Raburn in the lineup every day if there’s to be any chance that he’ll have a better first half. That was the plan last year and it lasted exactly one game. I see him splitting his time between 2ndbase and outfield. Ramon will get his reps at the two middle infield positions and, more than likely, come riding to the rescue in the second half as he always does. I think Jim can pull all this off and it’s really a choice between Inge and Worth. In that case, they go for the one they’re paying the bucks to. Not exactly what I prefer but that’s what I foresee, barring injuries.

great game today. Kinda rough for Below and Sherzer, but not a bad show for Inge. lol. Glad to see Doc Oc and Valverde looking good today too!
