ALDS Game 5: Tigers at Yankees

Considering Jim Leyland answered many of the questions about his lineup in his press conference yesterday, there wasn’t much suspense left. Second base, however, he hadn’t answered. Ramon Santiago gets the start there, batting ninth and getting the shot against Ivan Nova that he didn’t have in Game 1 (since Raburn was in the lineup to originally face Sabathia).

As for the batting order, Don Kelly moves into the second spot, where he had a string of starts back in June while Brandon Inge was out with mono. Magglio Ordonez bats sixth to provide a veteran bat in an RBI situation behind Victor Martinez.

Hey Rich, cool that you and your bride were at the playpffs in the D. So you did not bring your Grandy voodoo doll?🙂 No way am I ready for my team to be done. I feel real good about tonight’s game. I like the line-up. Maggs and Avila must hit. Go Tigers!

Whelp fellas, this lineup looks real nice – I don’t think anyone can blame the skipper today. As i’ve said before, lets play some good baseball and let the chips fall where they may. Bless you boys!

Like the lineup, let’s do this. GO TIGERS!

I never thought we’d get to an elimination game and have Kelly playing third and hitting second while the other two guys are healthy. Hey, maybe it works but I’m not entirely on board with this. This makes Inge your #2 if he comes in for defense, which might actually work out if Girardi went to CC. JL is not afraid to set himself up for criticism, I’ll give him that. Oh well, it really comes down to our big hitters anyway. Since I’m undecided on this move, I won’t second guess it later if things go wrong.

We need to jump on this kid early and put up some runs right away. I’m hoping we rout them so I’m not stressing the whole game.

How many of you didn’t even get excited in the first inning the other night when Kelly hit that ball? I’ve watched Grandy long enough to know he would catch that ball.

I dont know, some of JL’s lineups baffle me, but more often than not it seems to work out. I guess thats why he gets paid millions to manage and I sit in my chair watching baseball!
I am nervous about tonight. I feel good about Fister, but that lack of hitting in these playoffs is alarming to me. The are basically just walking Cabrera most ofthe time and I think Martinez and obviously Avila arent right, so it is in my opinion, unfortunately not good for us.

But for Magglio batting second and perhaps Peralta in the sixth spot there were no more options. Since RHBs have 30 points more than LHBs against Nova and taking in account the way they have been batting , that is the best lineup they can put.
Its up to Fister and the best closing- setup couple of MLB.
