Friday: Tigers vs. Orioles

The plan was for Wilson Betemit to start at third base tonight. Rain all day around Detroit changed the plan.

“Damp, cool night, didn’t want to take the chance,” Jim Leyland said this afternoon.

Too bad, too, because Betemit is 3-for-3 with a home run off O’s starter Alfredo Simon. Brandon Inge homered off Simon in their only meeting, but Don Kelly gets another start at third tonight, batting second.

The Orioles don’t have a lot of left-handed bats to test Rick Porcello tonight, just two lefties and a switch-hitter. But the guys they have — Nick Markakis, Matt Wieters and Chris Davis) are pretty good.

If a damp cool night is the only reason Betemit isn’t starting, I’ll take that as a very good sign. His extra bat in the lineup has made a ton of difference, and it looks like we can expect him back in there.

I never really have any personal expectations when gearing up for a Tiger game. I do tonight.
I am hoping tht Ricky absolutely has a s shutdown game to provide an easier decision as the selection of the 4th starter.
He is head and shoulders above Penny in terms of talent and potential. I am hoping that this day results in a quality, quality performance for him.

Attaboy Miggy. Ramp it up!!!
Might have been able to escape the top of the 1st if we had gotten a better throw on the relay home.

Hot or not? Looking like not. C’mon Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!

Baltimore is playing good ball. Loose and confident.

Good job by Porcello tonight. They had very few hard hit balls, if any. Bunch of dribblers and dinks.

Not sure why JL just eliminates the bunt from his game.
5th inning Dirks up and Peralta on 2nd. Why not let Dirks swing or take a strike and if he doesn’t get the ground ball then bunt?
We were lucky enough to score the run on Ramon’s single but it was very important to get that runner to 3rd when we had nobody out.

These ground balls that Peralta keeps handing the shortstop with are becoming a big problem.
Make him bunt or hit&run.

Another bad play by an infielder, this time Ramon. I can’t believe they gave Markakis a hit.

That is the problem with bunting everytime( it was the equivalent) . It takes the bat out of the best batter.Giving one out in the process

Yikes, neither of those final two pitches to Peralta were in the zone. The umpire sure inserted himself into the outcome of the game there. Not cool.

I guess this is preparing us for “gutwrenching.”

Cabrera has tied the dark horse for MVP, Young, with 336 for second in avg in the AL

Delmon has GOT to be able to get a walk there. Cabrera is money in those situations.

Thank you, Tigers!! A great win tonight!

Really good bullpen work tonight by all of them.
Tonight I realized for the first time that I prefer to see Inge at the plate over Jackson. Never thought I’d say that.
You know, I don’t think the home field thing matters all that much. What I do want, however, is to get NY in a longer series so we can exploit their rotation. Different reason, but the same task at hand. Beat out Texas. Unless the Angels sneak in……

If the Angels sneak in, we would play…………Texas!

The bullpen was great. I wouldn’t go so far as to include Perry in that. assessment though. Perry got lucky.IMO
VMart comes through when it really counted.

Still cold, just got back from game! Thinks looked a bit shaky from the pitching ( lots of (dibblers and bleeders) to some shaky infield play, by several. Then they started to stronger as the game went on!

Maybe Texas will flatten out a little after clinching.
I’ll take home field advantage anyday.
Pretty nice for the Detroit fans too.
