I must have missed that about Betemit and his knee.

Interesting the way JL is setting up the rotation. Makes me think they want Scherzer to pitch only at Comerica. It’s not easy when you don’t know who or where you’re playing. It’s one of those occasions where it’s hard to second guess. I’ll go along with Jim here.

Me too. Fister should be #2. Simple as that.

Fister must be second without homefield advantage. Scherzer splits are against him out of Copa.

On the pre-game radio interview, Leland said he would try and get Al-Al to pitch either tonight or tomorrow night. They have to see if he’s right. Also, he said it’s not looking too good for Carlos although he’s not saying he won’t be on the roster, but his calf is still hurting. Wilson had a bit of swelling on his knee, but it’s getting better.

I’ve got a bad feeling about Hosmer again. This guy really plays well against us and by all reports, other teams too.
He is solid defensively (just dove to rob VMart) and seems to feast on us at the plate.
Major test for Penny. I’m ambivalent. Want this game but don’t really want him in the playoffs.

Completely agree, Hosmer looks like the real deal.

Ridiculous. We are obviously lucky to get out of the 1st giving up only 1 run.
But our hitting? This guy has a CAREER 8.43 ERA.
Better get to him before Penny has us behind by 4 or 5.

Dan and Jim said they aren’t making the pitcher work hard enough. Not seeing enough pitches. I want #90 tonight. Let’s go Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!

2 base running errors by Jackson?

Right, pup, too many first pitch outs.

Not thrilled with our hitters either! Lazy ab’s although we have been seeing a lot of these the last 4 games. Whatever hitting shoes we had the last several weeks have gone bye bye!

Brad Penny is worthless! It’s rather pathetic! Hitting and pitching all the way around pretty flipping pathetic.

Hate to say this, but we need to plug one of these guys. They are entirely too comfortable up there. Knock ‘em off the plate. This is the big leagues.

KC always seems to thrive at the end of the season. They really get off being the spoiler. I can’t stand them.

pathetic.

To Brad Penny, I’m going to paraphrase Dean Wormer from Animal House. “Hanging breaking balls and fastballs down the middle is no way to go through life, son.”

Wish I had a couple of their players though. They are a nice team and going to be a force next year if they pick up even a little pitching..
Yes we have clinched but it does not entitle one to be blindly stubborn and willing things to happen. Penny has had these kinds of outings all year. He will not ever pitch well enough to help this team. Turf him and don’t even consider him for the post season.
Sometimes a even a novice can know what will happen out there. We knew Hosmer feasts on us and Penny was already done—why let him pitch to Hosmer? What stubborn logic is that anyhow?

True, but out offense looks dead.

A Royal Whipping!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not even worth wasting the electricity to watch this.

Our offense is dead. And that is a major concern because it happens overnight and it happens to the whole lineup. This has happened at least 3 times this year after hot streaks. No cooling off but right into a team wide funk. We have been able to win a few games lately, but not in to any degree because of the hitting.
1st pitch swinging by a guy with the skills of Cabrera with 2 men on and down by 6 is senseless. Wait for a pitch you can elevate and try to get back in.

I don’t think it will be #90 tonight. Tomorrow is another day, right Scarlett?

The concerns deepen.
Dirks—nowhere near the sparkplug he was early on. Been pretty impotent.
Peralta– Looks to me like he has the #20 on his mind. Bad swings.
Delmon–has cooled off and is also doing a lot of hacking.
“Q”—wasn’t he supposed to pitch tonight? This is very major.
Avila—not attacking the ball like he was last month.
AJ—been well documented by just about everybody.

Where is our middle relief RHP going to come from. Without Q this is a serious problem to be heading to to the playoffs with.
Told you about Hosmer—he’s 5 x 5 now with that huge 3 run HR. This guy loves playing the Tigers and the other Tiger killer, Butler, is not even in the lineup tonight.

Hosmer 11 for his last 12 against us. When do you start pitching around him? It is what it is, 22-year old rookie or not.
.
Postage stamp sized strike zone tonight but our hitters never tested it out. ABs given away. They take the Royals lightly, have for years. You can’t convince me otherwise.
.
Mainly though, we need to get these boys back home. This has been a very very long trip, and I’m sure glad we’ll finish up with a week long homestand. Let’s see how we look by the end of the weekend.

Fine. Let’s get #90 tomorrow!!!!!!!!

And knock Hosmer off the plate if you’re going to pitch to him! You see him diving out there on most of his hits? Unacceptable. Knock him back, you won’t hurt his feelings.

Please end the Penny Dream. It’s very clear he is 6th starter quality.
Not sure what we signed him for but I’m sure the Yankees would take him.
Pauley doesn’t seem like he is going to cut the mustard. Perry is the only “hope” I’m afraid to say.
I am hoping for our guys to show some character tomorrow in their last away game and with one of their top 3 pitchers on the mound.

I hope we don’t get subjected to JL’s “brilliance” at pitching certain guys because of the home and away crap. He did that in ’06 and it lost us the series. No question in my mind about that.
You start JV, you put the hammer on with Fister then you let the other team sweat it out and make mistakes. You don’t throw your 3rd best pitcher in the 2nd game and allow the other team to get their bearings.
I don’t have confidence that that’s the way JL will manage though as his tendency is to overmanage and repeat mistakes.

OK guys, the celebration period is over, time to ramp back up for the postseason, last nights game looked terrible. Need a surge tonight to get reinvigorated. I am sure we panic much more than the players but for sure the offense has been very dull this last week.

Well, now I can say it is just one game and it really does not mean anything. Sure we want the best record and want to have a better record than Texas. We still have the same manager that everyone was complaining about earlier in the year. The best line I read on this thread is the boys need to get back home. I think they are ready to start the playoffs. The “weight” of winning the divison is done and every player let out a big sigh of relief. Go Tigers 2011.
