Wednesday: Tigers at White Sox

A little different lineup today for the Tigers against Dylan Axelrod in his first Major League start. With no track record against Axelrod, Jim Leyland is using the day to get guys some rest. Resting Avila, he said, was a “no-brainer.” He wanted to get Jhonny Peralta and Austin Jackson a day off at some point in this stretch, and he wanted to get Carlos Guillen a game.

“I told Alex to treat himself like a king today,” Leyland said.

Think of it this way: Once the Tigers clinch, you’d be asking Leyland to rest some guys anyway. This is a little head start.

Leyland also said this morning that he’s hoping to get Miguel Cabrera a game off soon.

I think it’s important to get some guys a little rest down the stretch, especially Alex. That kid has taken a beating lately. Now if we can win today with this lineup and with Penny on the mound, this team could be unstoppable.

hey we gotta be playin well in OCTOBER – september isn’t really that important if you were going to win it anyhow

“Every Game Counts”

Evan, I do hear you. I worry about us not maintaining this through October, but truth is we can’t just turn it on and turn it off, we needed it now to put distance between us and the central division but we can’t just turn it off and on so easily.

Alex took a beating last night, he needs this time off.

My man Carlos at it again, doing his part when given the chance, reminding the skip he can be utilized, maybe not often, but keep his bat from getting rusty, he could be a valuable pinch hitter. Or you can go with the saying every squirrel finds a nut. I prefer to go with the first.

I would have been inclined to give Penny a day off too!

Penny is 3-0 vs WSux this year and the team is 4-0 in his 4 starts against the WSux.

I guess the 4 runs explains my position on Penny quite well!
I have no confidence in this guy whatsoever.
I’d much rather see the future (Turner or Below) than the past.

Let’s go Tigers!!! Gotta get some runs.

Holy jesus toledo! I’ve never seen a Tigers team play like this in September. I’m just in awe everyday. I’m happy even if we don’t end up getting a W today!

Might as well win it and be even happier.

Can you believe it??? They do it again and again and again. Go Tigers! Time to finish White Sox.

I can’t stand it. Might have to go to the store.

Unbelievable. When Avilia hit his monsterous HR in the 9th you could see all signs of life leave the ChiSox and their fans. When Valverde got the last out, you could hear all the TIger fans in CHicago. Great win. Unbelievable winning streak. Keep it rolling Tigers.

Excellent win! They shown what the Tigers really mean to this season. “It’s not over till it’s over”. Congrats to all.

hopefully they won’t have any jet lag having to (pointlessly, ridiculously) go to oakland for 4 games…

I almost want to go to Oakland myself!!!
This has bee one of the most amazing turn of events in Detroit Tiger HISTORY.
JL told Alex to “treat himself like a king”–instead he simply acts like a king and leads his mates to a victory with one at bat.
The only thing bad about this 12 game period of suberb play is that we are getting spoiled by it.

There will be PLENTY of tickets available in Oakland.

Texas 8-Cleveland 1

I think Magglio will be back with Detroit.
He told venezuelan media that he overtrained last year. After the DL stint , he was better. And since benched , he has beeen better. So it can be true and not and excuse.
Boesch will be back from surgery because of an injury caused by his swing. So he will need adjustement.
Along his career , Young has been a great bat , after ASG. And with a suspicious glove. Detroit got the good endof his season. But having two Raburn in a team could be too much.
Dirks is still a promise.
Magglio willl give them a plan b,. A veteran presence in the clubhouse . And a bench player that can draw a walk when you need runners on base, who can drive the ball to the opposite field to advance a runner or put theballin play when that is enough. So with higly incentive based contract he can be there next year

That would be OK by me El Tigre.

“I told Alex to treat himself like a king today,” Leyland said.

Do kings hit game-tying home runs in the 9th?🙂
