Thursday: Tigers at Twins

Remove Brandon Inge, insert Wilson Betemit, and you pretty much have the standard Tigers lineup going up against the Twins.

  1. Austin Jackson, CF
  2. Brennan Boesch, LF
  3. Magglio Ordonez, RF
  4. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
  5. Victor Martinez, DH
  6. Jhonny Peralta, SS
  7. Carlos Guillen, 2B
  8. Alex Avila, C
  9. Wilson Betemit, 3B

P: Justin Verlander

  1. Ben Revere, CF
  2. Alexi Casilla, 2B
  3. Joe Mauer, 1B
  4. Michael Cuddyer, RF
  5. Jim Thome, DH
  6. Danny Valencia, 3B
  7. Delmon Young, LF
  8. Tsuyoshi Nishioka, SS
  9. Drew Butera, C

P: Carl Pavano

Sure hope Austin gets off to a good start and Brennan stops continually swinging for the fences. Just get on base, fellas. Go, Justin. Go, Tigers!!!!!!!

austin didn’t play that ball cuddyer got a triple off the ball very well.

No earned or unearned runs because of it.

Tough breaks for Carlos–hitting the ball on the button and he has nothing to show for it.
Real nice to have a guy like Cuddyer out there in RF if you are a Twins fan. The guy has a fabulous arm.

We see ya Brennen!!

Willie Hernandez

Mr. Reliable.

Glad Brennan didn’t take my advice. Swung for the fences and got one.

Big inning for JV–both in terms of pitch count and shutting these guys down. No gifts to this part of the lineup please

Rod & Mario just said that the Non-Latin players “need to eat Rice & Beans”. I didn’t know that’s all that Latin people. So what do we have to eat to be Broad casters?

I’ve been craving Mexican food recently and our local newspaper had a big survey asking people which Mexican/Latino restaurant was their favorite. Rice and Beans with some warm tortillas sounds real good to me.

100 and they need another inning at least from him.The extra day or the overload?

VMart great hitter but I don’t think you should be swinging at the 3-0 pitch with a couple on and Peralta, as RHB, on deck

Not a good first impression

Betemit didn’t have to do much at 3rd, but so far, well not so good. I assume they will change this, but right now in the box score they have that as an earned run for phil coke? Verlander was back to Verlander tonight.

Impressive hitting tonight. That’s a really long lineup if everyone stays healthy. Verlander made that look easy. It would be nice to get three in Minny this trip while they’re still down some ballplayers. It will be different later this season.
I didn’t comment on the Betemit trade with everything else that went on yesterday. I like the fact that he’s a switch hitter and is a 100 percentage point upgrade in BA. I don’t know how JL sets up his rotation for resting guys, but it would be good to have the stronger defensive infielders start in the games that Porcello and/or Penny pitch. Scherzer and Verlander don’t need as much help with groundballs. With that in mind, I’d rather see Worth here than Raburn. No reason why we can’t tighten up the defense for selected games and still use the heavy hitters for most others.
Still waiting for Avila’s first day off of the second half.

Avila is a very fluid player. But even given tht he does not seem to be putting a lot of swing in his swing. Almost casual. Though, as I say, he does have that easy fluid style.
I think it is a little early to measure Betemit’s fielding. He simply could not hold on tho the ball and I think he may have wanted to.
He’ll be fine

Nice game, saw the last half of it and JV was right on form again, for his sake this team needs to excel, he deserves a championship at some point in his career.

I did not hear the rice and beans comment, not exactly a PC thing to say. I am sure they meant nothing by it, but I am sure there are other examples of other races and food that if said on a broadcast would be an immediate apology.

Way to go BB – nice homer. The offense when it does what it can do is amazing. Rod calls the guys professional hitters and he is right on the nose about that, Carlos getting that sac fly was a great example of players knowing they don’t need to always hit a homerun to do what is best for the team.

Keep it going offense, you never know if you’ll need it with Max.

Oh, and I just LOVE seeing Thome strike out. Not sure why, but he has been a Tiger killer in the past so I like to see us have success over him. Would guess this might be his last year, he has had a terrific career.

You’re right tiger girl, many others found his “joke” pretty tacky. I had the game on but was using kitchen listening to Dan and Jim. Not to cool. You know he would be offended if someone said the other team needed to eat more ham hocks and collards.

Rod Allen said last night that if McLendon had gotten the Seattle managing job, Bull Durham likely would have come north to be Detroit hitting coach. That’s interesting.
If you want to see Kuroda pitch, he’s starting tonight at 10 PM against Washington.
