Jim Leyland had said Saturday night he planned to give Alex Avila the day game off following the pitches off his wrist the last couple nights. Victor Martinez gets the start behind the plate.

I do get the feeling it’s “put up or shut up” time for Raburn.
Inge/Raburn batting 8th and 9th will bail any pitcher out of a jam.
I see they are quietly sending Carlos to rehab down in A ball for Lakeland on Monday.
I highly doubt there will be a trade for a 2B man now.
This fits right into their “Hope & Dream” philosophy. They can muddle through 3 weeks of Raburn and then replace him with Guillen who will be portrayed as an upgrade, a “bonus” and like “getting a start player in a trade”. We’ve heard this rhetoric before.
I prefer the “idea” of Carlos more than Raburn but the practicality of an aging, brittle, out of shape, veteran with no spring training behind him playing in games that matter, doesn’t exactly fill me with excitement. I hope the best out of this but I feel it just another misguided attempt by management at salary retrieval.

I’m sure Alex can use the day off. Hate to see him out of the lineup but this is good spot if you are gonna pick one.

No catcher will be there more than 120 games per season and certainly not after a night game if the next is a day game.
Beside that martinez was supposed to be behind homeplate no less tan 50 games. He likes to catch and is good at it, last season been a flaw in his carrer.

Magglio is doing well. And Cabrera is recovering his pace
