Better be the same strike zone for both pitchers today! Porcello was totally squeezed that first inning!

No reason on earth why Austin can’t score on that play to right side with the flip going from the infield towards the outfield with Felix’s momentum going that way as well.
This is the one area that I blame LL for —(not being able to get the run in from 3rd withless than 2 out). The club shows very poor plate discipline (lother than Martinez and Avila) in these situations.

That was an intentional walk in disguise. Cabrera thinks pitchers dont fear Martinez enough yet

But they will learn the hard way

VMart does it again! He’s a pro.
I placed my 25 votes at MLB.com yesterday for Alex, VMart and Peralta.
That’s correct, I did not vote for Cabby.

We need to get Lamont off thirdbase. You have to send Jackson on the flyball and make them execute the play, no matter who the centerfielder is. Martinez bailed Lamont out. There have been entirely too many poor decisions there this season. He’s not good at it.

I don’t get all the concern over the C/DH scenario when VMart is catching. It’s pretty much the same situation when Alex is catching isn’t it? Other than AA may be a little less likely to get hurt behind the plate than Victor.

One run lead, two out, man on second. Do you pitch to the Hall of Famer or to Brendan Ryan? Those two runs weren’t necessary, as it’s likely Rick could have retired Ryan.
Conversely, Hernandez walked Martinez with a man on first to pitch to Dirks. I’d say Wedge is kicking JL’s butt today.

Well this one was looking real good until the 5th anyway. Santiago not making that play catching figgens turned out to be huge! Santiago not sob slick there!

That’s not so slick!

Back to work. Let’s go Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Not sure why avila thought that was going to be a hit! Major blunder there!

Seattle is going in the right direction. With their starters, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them competeting with Texas in the west all year. A healthy Bedard as a 3 starter is pretty impressive. And King Felix is awesome.

Ordonez comes back tomorrow…. who goes down….

With that homer by Olivo this 1 is over. Not a lot to be happy about here and a lot of blame to go around! Santiagos blunder to me in the 5th was the turning point though. If he makes that routine play this could of been a whole different game.

No RB pinch hitter?

Santiago again can’t come through with a big hit. Shocker there, I don’t have this great love for him like some of you do.

Poor play today. We deserved to lose this one.
Santiago seems to be losing concentration IMO. The other day there was a soft liner he misplayed (Boesch actually got the forceout at 2nd so it didn’t cost us).
I don’t know how that happens but it has happened to me. Catch all the pops and ground balls and somehow lose track of throws or things hit right at you.
Uncharacteristic for him.
Boy these guys like Smoak and Olivo seem to feast off us.

Can Phil Coke win a game tomorrow?
Still say I’d rather see him in the pen.
Boesch had a stinker today.
At least Cleveland is gonna lose too.

We just kind of gave that one away. Win-able game.

Pretty lame game. Not many tigers have much to be proud of today. And no I don’t think Felix was all that awesome today, they ran up a ton of pitches on him early certain hitters were bad and couldn’t come through with a big hit. Then they let up on Felix and he woundup going long. The pen let it get out of control. Meanwhile Liriano was a no hitter going and they are creaming Texas.

Smoak is a player, saw him a lot here in South Carolina. He has a very smooth swing. Olivo just kills everyone not named Verlander on the Tigers

If you keep your best players, Gonzales needs to go back to AAA for Maggs. However I get the feeling it will be Wilk.

Actually if Santiago would of made that routine play tha would of been 2 outs, the next guy grounded out so Chone wouldn’t have scored right, it would of been 3 outs right? But I agree this is a game where a tem had there head in the game it was a game that could of been won!

Yeah, Santiago botched that throw. There is large difference in velocity between Alex and Victor on those steal attempts. I thought the game turned on the decision to pitch to Ichiro in the 5th, but even all of JL’s good moves backfired today. One of those days. I wonder if a manager has ever turned to his bench coach and said “Nothing I’m doing is working. You take the next three innings.”

Yeah, but wouldn’t that be Lamont in our case?

Doesn’t seem to know whether he’s coming or going.

Big home crrowd, too. Just got home from work and was looking forward to watching the replay. Not now. They never seem to score runs for Coke, so good luck with that one. Disappointed!!!

Danny Worth has been hot. I would have liked to see him in there instead of Santiago, at least pinch hitting in the 8th! Santiago is a very good glove, normally, but his bat…

bench player, imo, though I know some disagree.

Can’t be proven one way or the other with Santiago since it hasn’t been tried. It’s just opinions, which everyone has.
In our case, when JL gets ejected it’s Lloyd who takes over. I bet, in the long history of superstition in baseball, there’s been a manager who’s done just that. “You try it, I’ve got no luck today.”
Not the end of the world, obviously, but you hate to give games away. It’s the difference between 80 wins and 90.
They sent down Gonzalez, which demonstrates where he stands. They wouldn’t bring Thomas back to the big club, would they? Don’t answer that.

Real shame we missed the opportunity to pull ahead of the Indians as the old foes are gathering steam at the rear. The Twins/Chisox series will be interesting.
