Friday: Tigers vs. Mariners

Ichiro (Am I the only writer who still goes by one name when writing about him?) is 4-for-9 off of Tigers starter Brad Penny. But he’s also mired in a 13-for-87 (.149) slump, which has dropped his season average from .303 on May 18 to .252 now. According to MLB.com Mariners reporter Greg Johns, it’s his lowest batting average ever at this point in a season. So M’s manager Eric Wedge is giving Ichiro a day off, ending his streak of 255 consecutive starts.

Taking Ichiro’s place in right field for the night is Carlos Peguero. When rumors were building two years ago about the Mariners possibly trying to trade for Curtis Granderson, Peguero’s name generated some buzz, at least in media circles.

Any updates on what they think about getting this game in tonight. We have tickets, but I am not real excited about going down there only to find out it isn’t getting played?

Nice pre-game show tonight. But more than that special edition Detroit Tiger Camaro they are showing off, I’d love to own one of those Loft apartments for sale only a few blocks from the Park. Noticerd the for sale sign while I was on the bus leaving the area and thought, man oh man, if I had $89,000 to drop, that’s where I’d do it. That would be pure heaven to be able to walk to the Park every home stand. To me, there is nothing more fun than going to Comerica and watching a game in person. So much goes on that we don’t see on TV. I envy those who can attend often.
.
Hope we win tonight. Go Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hot Cameros, flash mob, live music, the place is jumping. All this and a baseball game too?

Brad Penny is living dangerously tonight. His breaking ball is up over the plate and appears to be just “hanging around!”.

When you talk about Canadian ball plyers how can anyone leave out Justin Morneau??
Not too mention John Hiller, Joey Votto, Eric Gagne and Ryan Dempster.
We have had a few here in Detroit, Reno Bertoia, Hiller, Mike Kilkenny, Matt stairs, Max St. Pierre

Maggs hit a dinger in Toledo with a man on.

Music to our ears.

Hate to get on Miguel too much but he was horrible last night and I think tonight if I am not mistaken he he swung at the firt pitch and was out on that first pitch in all three ab’s! Not good. And I think there pen can outlast ours!

Cab plays so much that I wonder if he is playing hurt at times when he should be taking a day off.. He is not as sharp right now as we have grown accustomed to.
I hope he can do something miraculous in the 9th.

Rats!
At least JL had the sense to PH for Raburn. Not that it worked out, but it had a better chance.
We ran into excellent pitching tonight.
Raburn is gonna be a pretty cranky guy tonight I bet. 3 lousy at bats and then being PH for by Ramon. That is insult to injury.
We really need Max to get his act together tomorrow. He is still not getting people out when he is ahead in the count. His 2 strike pitches have not been very good now for awhile.
It gets even tougher tomorrow and Sunday. Maybe facing quality RHers will get Miggy fired up a bit.

Well, as Rich hates to hear, “you gotta tip your hat.” Excellent pitching. I thought Penny kept us in the game, but we just couldn’t hit.

Pretty unimpressed tonight. Boring and I don’t know if you are right or not about Miguel but he has been aweful the last few days. Its going to be a long weekend and appearently only the white soxs can hit Seattle pitching.

I also had the impression that Cabrera had made three first pitch outs but I looked it up and Gameday said his first AB was seven pitches. I have no memory of that. But I do think he might need a day off, a total day off without DH-ing.
I have to wonder if the crowd reaction had anything to do with Raburn being PH for in the 9th? JL would never admit to it if it did. I was almost hoping Peralta would either homer or make the final out so Raburn didn’t have to hit with the game on the line. If he struck out to end the game, there would have been a riot. And in the “when it’s going bad” department, two of those strike three calls on Raburn were off the plate. As it was, Santiago came close. When he hit it, I thought for a fleeting second that he had hit a walkoff homer. Can you imagine that happening?

Would of bet he made three first pitch outs?? Go figure. I guess the game was soo boring it all started blending into each other. Nobody looked good last night.

All right, Pup, that’s a $100 fine for saying “you’ve gotta tip your cap.” :-) How do you remember this stuff? I didn’t even recall saying that until you mentioned it.

Jason, I read your tweet about Sheffield might still be looking for Asdrubal Cabrera. I was thinking of that fight also tonight, and ended up wondering if Peralta was on the field at the time for Cleveland. Hard to imagine Jhonny getting into a scrap.

Scott Sizemore doubled with the bases loaded to beat the White Sox tonight. Just one game but the trade looks good so far for the Tigers. Purcey has done well so far. Only KC may be a winner in the AL Central tonight. If only the Tigers could hit against the Mariners. Now their two best pitchers? Oh boy.
