Friday: Tigers at White Sox

Danny Worth gets the start at third base tonight with Brandon Inge on the DL. Look for Don Kelly to get most of the starts there against right-handed pitchers, but Mark Buehrle is starting for the White Sox tonight.

Konerko was originally batting cleanup in the White Sox lineup, but was scratched after he had a surgery today to remove a loose fragment from his left wrist. He’s available to pinch-hit later, but Adam Dunn will start at first base in his place.

Man, Oliver in the first was in a total daze – amazing only one run given up, yet shouldn’t have been any.

I’ll tell your right now Andy Oliver is not ready for prime time.
He looked awful in the 1st and made the stupidest play imagineable on the one hopper right back to him. His head is not in it. He looks mechanical out there and I guess that play proves it. Gave them a run when they tried their best to blow the inning.

Maybe a bit reactionary by me but I remember this guy last year looking out of place. He still looks out of place. His command is very poor and I hope he can bear down and show us what he really has.

Jackson is not hitting anything hard lately. Been a hindrance to us this year so far.

They better get Oliver out. He’ll put us right out of this game real fast if they don’t
BTW–Ordonez 0 x 3 tonight. Coke 8 hits in 5 innings with 6Ks

Sure lucky Chicago have been inept with runners on. Only down 1-0 amazing.

Not too often will you see this many base runners and poor pitching result in (what should be) no runs.
We are absolutely blessed to be in this game at this point. Good teams take advantage of the opportunity given them and we have been gifted so far.
Wells appears to need more ABs. I like the guy but he might be better off being sent down. he keeps striking out and he will stamp his own passport.

Stealing (trying to anyway) ahead of Miggs a bit dumb.

That 3 run homer was sooooo predictable. You can’t try and skate on thin ice inning after inning.

Bullpen call. and a pinch hitter for raburn

All pretty predictable..
If it were me I would actually bring in Gonzalez at this point. Not the lefty. Save him for tomorrow. The Sox might be contained with their RHB hitters in a bit better than serving up another southpaw to them.
We deserve to behind by 4 runs.
I’ll be happy to see Oliver back in Toledo. He’s not ready. and in fact if we want to use him as procurement ( ala Andrew Miller) I say by all means. He’s too docile for my liking.

I didn’t mind the steal. I thought it was aggressive and against a pitcher we were lucky to still be in the game with. Boesch could have been called safe and if you are going to be aggressive then that may have been the time to get back in the game.

I do like Wells! 3rd 3 run HR in a couple of weeks now. They sure help.

Missed signal? Hit and run went bad?

Chalk and cheese Wells AB followed by Boesch. What a nice compact swing he put on that homer.

Hard to believe how fortunate the Tigers have been this game. ChiSox seem to be playing into our hands (except for the shot by Quentin). No way we should be in this game at all.

The rookies can’t seem to stop giving free passes.

Boesch is hitting the lefties better. Could be interesting with Thornton.

Strange game thus far. Chicago with all the opportunities handed to them that they failed to take most of them.
We hit a couple of lines straight to CF and Victor just missing the homer with 2 on in the 4th.
May still pull it off.

Although we don’t deserve this game, either do the Sox.
A break and a bomb gets us back in it. It would be nice to get a lucky one.
When is AJ gonna start playing ball?

Soo close Alex.
Time for Ramon to show his cool.

Nice job by Avila. He’s gotta be leading this club in clutch SacFlys for sure. Got robbed by Pierre (who always seems to play pretty well against us..
Not sure we’re gonna be able to clutchup here though.

Nice AB Ramon???? Not!

Well the only way these Soxs can beat you is the home run and in this park it is rather easy! Geez!

I don’t expect we will be able to do much against Santos..
We’ll be lucky if Cab gets an AB.

AJ does not like to slide too much does he?

Well we deserved to lose that one. Oliver sure defined LP in that game too.
Pierre was instrumental in this victory. Scored 3 runs and robbed us of maybe a couple.
Pierzynski always seems to hit us well too. Plus he gets a guy stealing?!
Can’t say as I am too surprised after the way the game started.

Aggressive base running yet timid with the pitching selections and changes.
Kept all his aces for another day again.

So I wasn’t the only one who saw that Quentin homer coming? Wish someone in the dugout could get a feel for the game, as it does us very little good in our homes. I must have been on tonight because I called the shot by Wells too. Go figure.
I had marked this game for a loss because of the pitching matchup, but it was closer than I would have thought. Two things I wanted done differently: one was to lift Oliver earlier than JL did, and the other was not to use Gonzalez. We’re in a big division series with the club we’ll probably be fighting with for the crown, it’s a close game late, and it’s NO time to get Gonzalez some work. We had a completely rested bullpen and Verlander going tomorrow. Using Gonzalez was inexplicable to my way of thinking. And I’m not surprised, as JL always manages his club over the game at hand. So someone else write a touchy-feely article about him again.
I wouldn’t have pulled Worth either, not tonight.
Oliver is prime trade bait, just get something of value for him. Please.
