Friday: Tigers vs. White Sox

If you’re in Michigan, or pretty much anywhere in the Midwest today, you know the deal with the weather: Rainy and cold. The hope as of a little bit ago is that they get a window to start the game around 7:30 or 8 p.m. and get in a good chunk of the game.

With Mark Buehrle on the mound for the Pale Hose, Ryan Raburn starts at second base for the third time in four games. Casper Wells gets the start in right field.

  2. Ryan Raburn, 2B
  3. Magglio Ordonez, DH
  4. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
  5. Jhonny Peralta, SS
  6. Brennan Boesch, LF
  7. Brandon Inge, 3B
  8. Alex Avila, C
  9. Casper Wells, RF

P: Justin Verlander

  1. Juan Pierre, LF
  2. Omar Vizquel, SS
  3. Carlos Quentin, RF
  4. Paul Konerko, 1B
  5. Adam Dunn, DH
  6. Alex Rios, RF
  7. A.J. Pierzynski, C
  8. Gordon Beckham, 2B
  9. Brent Morel, 3B

P: Mark Buehrle

Ordoñez going on a 3-2 with 1 out? To 3rd? What is Leyland thinking with Boesch up next and 2 men on?

I could smell that HR by Konerko on Gameday. JV should have thrown a couple of fastballs early in the count instead of the changes. He got into a 2-2 count and you knew that Konerko knew he was going see some fastballs if he could keep fouling of the change.
Quentin and Konerko seem to hammer JV pretty well.
Games gettin close, JV is getting hit, it’s time to make change Leyland

Good win and great to see Wells come through a couple of times. Maybe Raburn is going to get going too.
I heard them say that AJ is seiing the ball better but I am thinking that is wishful thinking. Time to give Inge a day off too.
JV big accomplishment today was zero bases on balls. he still gets a little fastball happy with the fastball hitters but that is the competitor in him. I guess he needs to have that little chip on his shoulder.
Not sure what JL is going to do about Maggs. To me, he just doesn’t look good at all. He actually might benefit from time off as opposed to working through it. Being the kind of pure hitter he is if he isn’t hitting I think the cause must be physical.
If we could lonly get him, Martinez, Franzen and Zetterberg healthy again!

6-0 agains Black Sox. 1000 SO.But open with Quentin with the same pitch of the first HR. And with Konerko, why work him inside and keep going inside insteas of a breaking pitch outside?
Why the bad blood with Pierzinsky? apart from the usual with P.
7th consecutive win against BSox

I bet the first word out of Leland’s mouth is “Well,…….”

Well just got back from the game- great win, but boy was it miserable to sit there! But it was fun to see the guys hitting and everyone contributing. I think I will be cold for the rest of my life!?!?!?

GK, I was cold just watching on TV…….well, not really.
It was good to have a nice, relaxing win where everything went well. I like close games, but these are good too.
Avila has done an excellent job of stepping up in Victor’s absence.
Raburn is to the White Sox what Luke Scott is to us. He kills ’em, has since he got here in 2007.
Jackson does look better at the plate, starting Wednesday and continuing tonight. He’s getting there.
I didn’t understand JL sending Ordonez and Cabrera on 3-2 to Peralta. Especially since Boesch was up next. Weird. Speaking of Brennan, that was a nice sac fly in the 2nd inning.
What’s up with AJ P? Looked like he was cursing at Verlander after striking out in the 7th. He should have put a “me” on the end of that expletive, if you know what I mean. Whatever.
Good defensive play by Cabrera.
Unless I’m wrong, Raburn has not had a grounder hit to him in 2 of his 3 starts at 2ndbase.
I’m pretty comfortable with Wells at the plate.
Tomorrow looms as a predictable loss with the series being decided on Sunday. It’s time for one of those “surprise me” games.

If you stayed for the entire game GK, bless you. Actually a very comfortable game to watch… to a warm fire that is. By comfortable I mean not stressful. We should be treated to more games like this one.
Couple of thoughts other than the obvious Verlander was terrific. Yeah, the averages are all down but it’s been a cold April. A lot of hitters across mlb are struggling in this cold. Our guys will only get better as it gets warmer. I’m not too worried. That said, Avila is swinging the bat with authority, and against the left hander.
At the twenty game point Ryan’s on pace for a 24 HR, 80 RBI season. I believe he’ll do better than that. AJ does not need to be sent down. He is way too good a player for that. How do you send last year’s ROY runner up down to the minors after just 20 games? PANIC! JL could bench him 1 or 2 times a week if he continues to struggle but he’s still valuable as a defensive replacement even on those occasions. Casper Wells seems to be a very good all around player and, along with Boesch, will develop into an important part of this team.
I’m a little concerned with Magglio as some of you are also. He got a hit tonight but doesn’t look confident yet. Reminds me of the slow start he had I think it was two years ago. Hopefully as he mends and strengthens, he’ll be a factor as the season heats up. I’m optimistically hopeful. Let the younger guys carry the team through the early cold part of the season.
Dunn did not impress me. Glad he’s not a Tiger. Don’t care about his 40 HR’s either. Now one guy I really respect is Omar Vizquel. There is the consummate professional and complete player. He would look good in the Old English D.

I don’t have any problem sending last year’s ROY runner up to Toledo if necessary, but I don’t think it’s necessary yet. My suggestion all along was to remove him from the top of the order, for the team’s sake if nothing else. I think, however, that Austin is turning the corner as we watch. I expect him to get results very very soon. Leave him where he is for now.
Adam Dunn is a good guy and fun to watch, but I didn’t want him signed here. I was wary of his adjustment to the AL, where there are a whole bunch of very good pitchers. I will add a tip of the cap toward the Phillies in that regard. I preferred Martinez for his having put up his numbers in the AL. That said, I’m expecting Dunnie to bust out, like tomorrow against Penny. My advice to Scherzer on Sunday is to throw him heat, nothing but heat. Dunn lives on your mistakes, and will make you pay for a hanger every single time. I’ve watched him do it with the Nationals.
Verlander had no idea he was nearing his 1000th strikeout. I liked hearing that, good man.

You deserved that victory GK.
Boy, would it not be nice to steal a win with Penny vs Jackson on Saturday?

It’s morning and i’ ve warmed up now! It was actually a fun game to watch! Nice to see the bats come alive. Rich I dont have much faith Pennt today either, and we all know what Edwin can do!

I’m dying to know, gk. Did you get your figurine? Sure hope so. Quite a few people at the game considering the weather. Miserable here today, as well………..cloudy, sprinkling and chilly. Will miss the start of the game, but hope Penny can hold up.
