Magglio day-to-day with tight hamstring

Magglio Ordonez is day-to-day with tightness in the IT band in the hamstring area, head athletic trainer Kevin Rand said Monday morning. He missed his second straight game Monday, but Rand indicated it doesn’t appear to be serious.

You may remember that Ordonez missed four days around the start of the month with a hamstring spasm. This new issue, Rand said, is different. It’s not really the hamstring, but it’s part of the hamstring area, more along the outside part of his leg.

You know, I saw 6 of the Tigers 9 losses, and 2 of their 18 wins. I think I got sandbagged. :-) They’re 16-3 without me in attendance.

Good to see three sac flies today. And good to see Coke get back on track.

Magglio…..hamstring…..2nd time this Spring…..Hey DD, don’t trade away any of those young outfielders just yet.

Nice to see the bats come alive today. Coke kept it together after a shaky start to have an excellent outing. I think he is slightly ahead of Penny for who is #4. The back end bullpen guys continue to be impressive. Rhymes and Worth?s bats have come alive the past five days. They may have both moved past Sizemore now.
.
I would not trade any of the four young outfielders or Strieby at this time. There value is not very high due to injuries, inexperience and in Boesch?s case a prolonged slump in the second have. I would keep them all as injury protection and if they stay healthy their value will rise. All of the five still have options, so waiver claims are not an issue.

Avila continues to hit the ball hard and is making better contact than last year. I think he worked so hard improving his defense last year in the off season that it affected his hitting last year. I would not be surprised to see him hit at least .260 with 15+ home runs this year. I still would like to see the pass balls go down, but the rest of his defensive game is strong and he has the makeup to grow into an excellent leader of the pitching staff.

Just read where Tom Gage says Leyland has named Penny to start the second game. Coke will be in familar surroundings the first week of the season pitching out of the pen.

One thing is becoming clear: there’s going to be more than one guy who deserves to go north with the club who won’t go north with the club. I’m just hoping those guys hang in there and realize there are still opportunities as the season progresses. To be specific, Guillen may never return, Ordonez could have an injury-plagued season, and Peralta doesn’t necessarily have to be the full time shortstop. Just sayin’…………….
.
I’m glad to have these fellas waiting in the wings. I don’t want to trade any of them.

Last year, the same day we lost Magglio, we lost Guillen. Sure hope Maggs is OK. It just wouldn’t be the same without him.
.
No complaints from me. The team is on a roll, but this is still ST. Still, you get the feeling, they might have a good team this year.
.
Jhonny’ s in a slump. The new whipping boy. He’s got to get going, too.
.
What in the heck got McClendon kicked out of the game today? Anybody?

Oh, I almost forgot. It’s cold up here in MI. Those guys are used to that very warm and sunny weather. Get yourselves ready, guys.

No way i would start Penny ahead of Porcello.
.
Porcello is a Tiger farm product and deserves better than being shunted in some grand JL scheme at rotation brilliance.
.
I like Scherzer but RP feels as though he is “more” of a Tiger at this point. Plus I think he deserves to be given that 2nd game. I would prefer Max over Penny but in some convoluted way JL is thinking this allows him to start Max in the home opener. Duh—it doesn’t take a genius to figure this early season rotation out.
.
The pitching has been excellent-Benloit, JV2, even Thomas. Live arms in the Alberquerque kid. But they are right in not using him as you simply can’t afford to walk guys in late innings.
.
Ni has pitched smart and even Brad Thomas has had some results. I don’t think that that will last though. The other southpaws in the system will make an impact before too long. Brad just doesn’t have enough to offer.
.
Wells deserves to make this team. He is a bit raw in many respects but he is one helluva an athlete on the baseball diamond. No way you can afford to get rid of a threat like Boesch. Jury is out on Clete. He does seem to get injured a bit. Dirks has latitude in his options and could benefit from a premier role in Toledo. I see Boesch and Wells making the club. The lefty/righty offense/defense thing makes sense.
.
Raburn and Ordonez in late innings on the corners is not ideal. Wells takes away base hits and won’t make errors.
.
Find a 2nd baseman and stick with him. IF Guillen can manage to play ball this year he really is nothing better than a DH. Peralta and Guillen up the middle are going to drive the pitching staff nuts.
.
Rhymes is a fighter–I’ll give him that. Sizemore may be better than average player, I don’t think Will will. Worth is the best choice to fill in there and the utility role should Guillen be able to answer the bell (doubtful).

IT band friction is an overuse injury, usually in runners, often causing pain around the knee sometimes near the hip. outer or lateral part of the upper leg as Jason mentions. will get some rehab from the trainer, don’t think it is likely to limit him much, though they could decide to give him some early season days off, DH him, or PR for him late in the game if he’s not at 100% by opening day.

This hombre is one good hitter. To DH him and play someone else in RF is not a hardship. Would likely cut into Avila’s plate appearances though.
.
I don’t mean to discount Will Rhymes. i like the heck out of him and he keeps impressing in different ways. I do feel he may have some limitations that we can’t compensate for with this lineup.
.
I think concern for Jhonny Peralta is justified. It may be just ST but I don’t like the K’s I am seeing in the boxscores.
.
No doubt in my mind that we wil see a trade within the next month.
.
An Iorg/Worth combination is the closest thing we are ever going to see as far as the sync we used to enjoy with Tram and Lou. No way they can hit like those guys though. (I don’t think!)
.
Pretty hush-hush with Zoom and Guillen lately.

Max will be Opening Day pitcher. That’s something. Porcello will get his first game at home. I think Leland made the right choice going with Penny in NY.

Opening Day at home, that is. Verlander is our #1 and he gets to go first on Opening Day in NY. Ugh. That ought to be some game. I sure hope we win.
