Sunday: Tigers at Braves

As expected, Magglio Ordonez has the day off. The ripple effect from that has Brennan Boesch moving from left field to right, Johnny Damon back in the starting lineup in left and batting third, and Ramon Santiago batting second for the third straight game. Danny Worth will start Monday at Minnesota and give Santiago a break.

Brandon Inge is also off, replaced by Don Kelly. Gerald Laird is behind the plate for Justin Verlander.

  1. Jackson, CF
  2. Santiago, SS
  3. Damon, LF
  4. Cabrera, 1B
  5. Boesch, RF
  6. Guillen, 2B
  7. Kelly, 3B
  8. Laird, C
  9. Verlander, P

Laird is in today against Hanson. That ought to be hugely successful. Wonder how many balls he’ll flip out of his glove today?

Laird almost always catches Verlander.

Good start to the game!

A 270 avg. in the third spot. Perfect.
Catchers are not the problem of the Tigers. A catcher is payed by his defensive skills. And Laird knows how to call a game.
Put a Victor Martinez to catch Verlander and he would become Zambrano. He shouted art Laird , so imagine him with a guy who threw out 3 of 54 runners.
Ivan Rodriguez was bating 235 when Leyland decided to give him some rest. He went to 270 and asked to be trade. The Tigers did what he wanted. Yes he is doing well, in the AAAA called NL

Laird is not the defensive stawart he was last year. Avila has had a couple of good games with Verlander. He has thrown out runners this year. laird has had trouble. Avila bats LH and has an idea at the plate. Avila is the future, Laird is the past.

Here we go. Let’s let the starter off the hook, give him some life and then let him have his way with us.
It’s what we do.

Omigosh. Laird did come through after all. And credit him with having a good AB at the most critical time.
Finally gave our SP something to work with.
