Sborz move official

The Tigers officially confirmed the back end of the Rick Porcello move: Theyll call up Jay Sborz from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday. Hell travel with the team to New York and have the move made in time for the series opener against the Mets at Citi Field.

I don’t even have anything to say about this- I’m just so happy to have a clean entry!

But ya still had to dirty it up, didn’t ya, Tracey? :-)

How they run the rotation will be the interesting part. Bonine is this year’s Zach Miner but unlike Zach, Eddie is very good in the bullpen, so I don’t mind him staying there. An effective spot start by anybody would lessen the rush to get Porcello back. Rick needs to get back to his old form no matter how long it takes. We already wasted time by not sending him down after the Chicago start. My bottom line right now is that Verlander get a start in Minnesota next week.

It is nice to have options although Gonzalez would have to be the odds on favorite.
.
More interesting will be the batting lineup without the DH and Damon at two.
Assumng AJax is right to go, we face two Mets lefties which AJax is hitting .179/.214 as opposed to righties .355/.401. Likely Ramon will play 2 but would prefer he swap with AJax who would then hopefully lay down a bunt which JL seems to like doing only in inter league games.

Hope everythig is going well with Jason. Nice to have the blog “renewed”.

My big hope for these resurgent Tigers:
.
That Damon and AJ becomnje major forces in the lineup. If that happens there’s no telling where this team could end up.
.
Valverde is continuing to impress.
.
Can you imagine how devastating Joel Zumaya could be if he had the luxury of having more counts where the hitters weren’t sure of what he was going to throw?
.

We all missed you, Jason! Welcome back.

Don Kelly has sure turned in some big defensive plays for us with AJ out.
.
Boesch is getting pretty darn dependable in the OF as well.
.
Ramon is doing a decent job at short. Can’t minimize how important that is.
.
I don’t see what many others see in Brad Thomas. To me he is someone waiting to implode. I’d seriously consider making his left arm available to someone else.
.
Jeff Larish is getting lots of reps at 3B in Toledo.
.
Very crucial that GMan helps in stabilizing the rotation with Porcello gone.
.
In my world, Bonine has earned the open rotation opportunity first. He might bomb there but he has earned it.
.
Any word on Adam Everett?
.
I’m glad Brennan Boesch doesn’t have red hair.
.
Where the heck did the Jeff Frazier come from? He’s complicating things!
.
Brent Dlugach doesn’t look like he is going to make it to the bigs as an everday player. He’s made too many errors and struck out far too much to count on up here.
Interesting abilities though.

What on earth are the Tigers going to do with Will Rhymes?
.
Whatever happened to the Demon in Damon?

Hello Everyone!

I read this blog every day, mostly because i can’t get enough information on the Tigers, but i also really enjoy reading most of your thoughts. Anyways, I wanted to get your opinions on Andy Oliver. Jon Morosi posted on Twitter earlier that the Tigers are planning on calling him up to start in place of Porcello on Friday against the Braves. I haven’t heard too much about him, but i remember Jim Leyland saying that he looked very good during spring Training.
.
I am also going to the Tigers Game vs the Twins on July 10, and I read somewhere that Willie Horton is going to be at the game signing books. Do any of you know if he will sign other things or what that is all about. I think i might just stand in line for that to at least say hi to him before the game.

Oliver has been at Erie and has not had much run support in a lot of games. Most of his starts have been good and he looked good in the Spring. He pitched in College at Oklahoma State and had a sub par senior year that caused him to fall to a second round draft pick. He has great potential and pitches left handed which is always a bonus.

Welcome gsma! I don’t know anything about Oliver, but there are people on this blog that follow the MudHens pretty closely that can answer for you.
*
As for Willie Horton, he is often available before the game to sign his book. Not sure if he signs other stuff as well.
*
Hearing this Cliff Lee for Brennan Boesch discussion all day. I hope it’s all on Seattle’s end and not ours.

gsma! Together we will bring a victory to our fellow bloggers. My one and only game of the year and I will be attending July 10 against Minnesota.
.
We will be playing outstanding teams in the next few days. Mets have the most steals in MLB. I’ve only heard of Oliver’s name and that he was one of last year’s picks. I can hardly believe it, myself, but the Tigers must think they need someone new in the pitching dept and he would be a new look. Coming from Erie for his league debut. Wow!

Thanks Guys!

I am right with you about them trading Boesch Tracey. He seems too good to just trade away. I am really looking forward to next year. I just hope DD can bring us some great players.

I am wondering if they are just bringing up Oliver for a little bit to get his name out there to see if any teams are interested in trading for him. The same sort of thing happened with Luke French Last year if i am not mistaken. It could get interesting for Detroit in July.

We have to win that July 10 game Pup, I am actually going to that game for my Bachelor Party, so you might even see my name up on the scoreboard! My mom is from St. Paul, so I really get into the games against the twins. It makes it fun when you have friends and relatives rooting for the Twins and others for the Tigers.

So the question now becomes which two players get demoted to make room for Oliver and the return of Ryan Perry?

Enrique, Sborz, Ni, and Perry have to be in the mix, and Oliver could be on a quick ride as well.

This move tells me they are looking for someone to slide into the rotation for several starts. Rather than disrupt the bullpen for a long stretch, it makes sense to bring up Oliver, a lefthander, and see how it plays out. If it was a spot start, I’d just go with Bonine, but I think Porcello might be down there for awhile. I’m all for that. I have a lot of confidence in Rick and I’d like to see him get completely straightened out and then come back up as an effective starter again. If Oliver absolutely crashed and burned, then you go to the next option (Bonine?). The few times I’ve seen Oliver pitch, I’ve been impressed.
.
It’s an interesting season in that we seem to be trying to compete for the division while at the same time seeing what we’ve got with the youngsters. There seems to be a big push all across baseball to bring up the highly touted kids and put them in there. It does keep interest levels high.

I just saw the line-up on Gameday. Laird is batting 2nd. Whoa! I know he is a good bunter so let’s hope AJax can get on base. Those of you who wanted a changed line-up got your wish. But I’m sure no one expected JL to do this. Let the comments begin.

Oliver will get to pitch the Twins game 3.
.
DD has really thrown caution to the wind and going with hunches. True class will reward your bravery.
.
If Sborz goes well and Gonzalez keeps the runs away, Ni looks likely to go down before Thomas who is out of options.
.
The way management keeps addressing issues, have to wonder how much longer they continue with bench players Kelly and Raburn. Kelly also out of options together with his utility value and good defense has probably saved him thus far.
