Sunday: Tigers at Dodgers

Relatively good news on the Austin Jackson front: He was in the clubhouse this morning and felt fine, still a little bit of a headache. However, his left eye is really swollen, almost completely shut.

“I can see down,” Jackson said, “but if I have to look at anybody straight [ahead], I have to lean back.”

Needless to say, Jackson isn’t available this afternoon, and unless they get the swelling down in the next couple days, he might have a hard time playing Tuesday in Seattle. Right now, they’re taking it day to day.

With that in mind, Johnny Damon is back in center field today, flanked by Brennan Boesch and Magglio Ordonez. Gerald Laird is catching Rick Porcello, as he usually does.

  3. Ordonez, RF
  4. Cabrera, 1B
  5. Boesch, LF
  6. Inge, 3B
  7. Laird, C
  8. Worth, 2B
  9. Porcello, P

  2. Xavier Paul, RF
  3. Matt Kemp, CF
  4. James Loney, 1B
  5. Casey Blake, 3B
  6. Garret Anderson, LF

Best of luck to AJ. Mentioned in a post that didn’t make it the BLOG (the BLOG has been a bit finicky lately), that what happened to AJ is career threatening, directly or indirectly. let’s hope he can shake this off (he seems to have the stuff to do just that).
Worth is playing very well, much better than Sizemore did. Makes you wonder4.
I know they are “committed” to giving (the 2nd time they have done that this year) the 2nd base job to Guillen. Makes one think perhaps it would be a novel idea to “earn” the job rather than be “assigned” to it. I like what I see in Worth and project him to be playing short for us before too long. Nothing against Ramon. We are lucky to have him, but we need a guy with a bit more physique to play that position for us. Baseball has become somewhat of a bigger man’s game and that is also true of the more prominent shortstops.
The big hole for Detroit next year will be at 3rd. If the Tigers want to truly compete they have to find a much better solution than the one they trot out there incessantly now.

Our boys are flirting with trouble again like the other 2 games where they got something in the 1st then kinda went to sleep.
Dodgers look like they may be getting to Ricky so I hope we can fire up this offense a little bit the next couple of innings.

Carlos just hit a 2-run HR in the 2st for the Hens.

leyland needs to tell porcello to take that target off his chest. he’s had 3 hard line drives right back to him. 2 hit him, one he caught.

Well the 5th just ended. I was just going to say the same thing. Hit in the first inning then fall to sleep. Congrats – hope they wake up.

Yeah, they are most definitley getting to Porcello. They are hitting the ball hard (I guess after 3 line shots to the mound Ricky will admit to that) and we are a bit fortuante to be ahead still.
This is where we need our offense to be more consistent. It can’t go on holiday every game.

Critical inning for us and for Ricky (6th).
Vin Scully reminds me a little of Go0d Old Ernie. I’m sure he learned a lot from him.
Please 2011 don’t have Inge, Everett and Laird on your roster. I can’t take the combined sub .200 average anymore.

I did not expect Porcello would get Manny out with the bases full and closing in on Lou Gehrig’s grand slam record.
Not sure why Anderson was able to scoot into 3rd on Carroll hit in the hole. Like to see that again.
C’mon offense, let’s show some life here.

Can anyone on this team hit the freaking ball after the 1st inning or is it 1st inning or nothing.?

I sure wouldn’t have Perry pitching another inning with 2 LHB coming up. Where’s Phil Coke/ What’s he supposed to be here for?

IF, we get this through this inning undamaged. We would then have Papa Grande throwing the 9th. If this comes to pass please JL, don’t let any Dodgers to have 2nd base due to catchers “indifference”. Play hard every pitch every batter.

Dontrelle is PH ing? how you feel now Alex Avila?
Call him back and the only guy they can really use now Everett. i don’t see them using Aj here. Is he even dressed?
Problem with Everett is he is a 250 hitter . And by tht I mean 250 FEET hitter. Won’t even be able to get a SacFly on that.

OK. Everett came through when it mattered. Good on him.
Worth was a big factor here today for us. Damon coming around and playing a very solid CF to boot.
Important victory before a day off and a 2 game series in Seattle. I’m tempted to try and catch those games but it is a pretty long drive.

In case no one noticed……………Valverde, with pinpoint control, came high and tight to Russell Martin. Buzzed his tower cleanly and professionally.
Russell Martin was the catcher yesterday during Jackson’s HBP.
Case closed, matter handled by Papa Grande. See you next time, Dodgers.

Good win today and the bullpen came through big again. Glad to see those late runs after the bats went to sleep innings 2-8.

And yes, it is brutal watching Inge and Laird bat back to back and kill any and all rallies in sight. Avila has to be kicking himself for not performing because if he were hitting even .250 the job would be his.

Have to mention Worth as well. Slick second base and getting his share of hits. I’m sure with Guillen’s history of injuries we’ll see Worth again this year.

I thought the same thing, Rich

Between Porcello and Jackson we are going to be pretty beat up after this series. I think the Dodgers were trying to kill our players.
Just heard on the radio Cabrera is going to be gone the next couple of days – his wife is having a baby. Granted that is way more important than baseball but why does it seem that these families don’t plan births of children a little better, they always seem to happen right during the season. But congrats to them.
And yes Worth is very slick at second.
