Saturday: Tigers at Dodgers

When Jim Leyland said Friday that he would going to mix it up in his outfield to fit his four outfielders into three spots, I’m not sure if many people expected that to include center fielder Austin Jackson. Today, it does. Johnny Damon will lead off and play center in between Brennan Boesch and Magglio Ordonez. It’ll be his first start in center this season.

  1. Damon, CF
  2. Santiago, 2B
  3. Ordonez, RF
  4. Cabrera, 1B
  5. Boesch, LF
  6. Inge, 3B
  7. Laird, C
  8. Everett, SS
  9. Galarraga, P

  1. Russell Martin, C
  2. Xavier Paul, RF
  3. Manny Ramirez, LF
  4. Matt Kemp, CF
  5. James Loney, 1B
  6. Casey Blake, 3B
  7. Blake DeWitt, 2B
  8. Jamey Carroll, SS
  9. John Ely, P

Well, the Twins aren’t losing and neither can we.

I don’t know what else MCab cold have done with that drag bunt. I’d not give him an error on that–if anyone, G-Man for not getting ther quickly enough but in reality–that was a base hit.

G-Man has to stop nibbling. Every time he engages in this pitching behavior he gets burned.

Do the Tigers know who their fans are? They sure aren’t playing like it.

Brandon is loved by many fans. People like him, because he’s a likeable guy. After this year, he needs to go somewhere else. His defense is starting to decline, and his offense…..well. The Tigers need a new SS. preferably a young one and/or someone who can drive in runs.

Weirdness again with how our comments aren’t in order with weird times.

Avila, imo, just might need some time in Toledo.

I’ll go out on the line here and predict this game is done. Tigers seem like they are treating this like (as Rich feels the games to be) an exhibition. They seem lacklustre and almost disinterested.
I hope I am proven wrong but we seem way overmatched here.

At least Laird is consistent, doesn’t even have warning track power, what a waste of at bats for the tigers ,Inge is another waste

Inge is a guy who is treated like a sacred cow. He is likable, he is athletic, he has a penache with the fans, but he is is a .230 hitter PERIOD. EXCLAMATION MARK.
The Tiger front office have made it a point to get rid of the stigma of the horrible pre 2006 Tiger teams. They forgot to get rid of Inge.
For us to win we need a bopper at 3rd and a threat at short. We will be OK at 2nd with Rhymes, Worth, Sizemore.
Avila will becomne a good MLB catcher.

For starters I hope Jackson is okay –
Well what a couple of lackluster days of baseball for the Tigers. Galarraga was horrible. The hitting for the most part was untimely and well untimely. Coulen’t string anything together. For the second night in a row, they looked like they understood the pitcher in the first few innings and well lets just say wound up making it all really easy for hime. And for the second night in a row our starting pitcher stunk and really didn’t give us much of a chance to win this ball game.
Congrats Tigers for as good as you have looked for the last week, you look inept right now. And by the way that last pitch to Inge was not a strike. And oh ya who else out there hates freaking Casey Blake.???

Well, at least Zumaya made us feel proud for an inning.

California dreamin Boesch goes yard.

Well, that was just an awful thing we witnessed. Austin Jackson getting “beaned” in the head. He walked off, but that ball hit him in the front of helmet and you could hear it just like a ball was hit.
They said it was an accident, but I don’t believe it.

That was the second pitch aimed at his head.

Inge a 230 hitter? my ***

Sorry Tiger Fan. .220 might have been more accurate. And a .220 hitter who has a habit of striking out a lot and leaving men on 3rd. Is that a little more accurate?

Good thing Rich was watching another MLB team play tonight. You didn’t miss a thing, Rich. Hope you and your family had a great day at the Park.

inge laird and everett rally killers

It’s hard to believe that even Fox is allowed to wipe out an entire Saturday night schedule of games for fans. This situation isn’t getting better, it’s getting worse.
Obviously I didn’t see the Tigers today. I may look at parts of it later in the archive. Meanwhile, I want to share with you all the strangest play I think I’ve ever seen in 50 years of baseball, and Ron Dibble and Jim Palmer backed me up on that with their comments. It made the entire trip to Nationals Park worth it, rain and all. Here’s the link with video:
I just can’t imagine Granderson or Jackson doing something like this.

in a way, i’m glad Zumaya didn’t have a ‘revenge’ pitch. but a 100+ stinger was certainly called for. i was actually expecting it, and the approach the dodgers took to Zoom in that inning indicated to me that they were expecting it.

the dodgers pitcher threw 2 at Jackson’s head and another at his wrists. he should be fined at the very least. he SHOULD’VE been ejected from the game. me and my wife had a rare opportunity to see a game live on TV and that at bat disgusted even my wife who is not an avid baseball fan. she looked up from her laptop loaded with facebook and “OMG WTF!!!”
cowardly baseball by the dodgers, and while i’m happy Zoom didn’t retaliate, i’m a little disappointed too.

Yea, I was wondering what might happen. Benches probably would have cleared. That was a dirty, dirty thing to do. Austin Jackson is a star rookie beaned in the head so hard it could kill him.

I hate the Dodgers.

Unbelievable, Rich. No, I have never seen anything like that happen in a game. That Morgan guy is an embarrassment to his team.

Ya Rich that was bizarre they showed that last night during the game.

Did Leyland really pull a double switch that resulted in Ordonez being removed from the game? While we’re trailing? Then in the 9th Avila has to hit in the Ordonez slot? He really did that? ………remain calm, Rich…….we’re being nice to Jim this year, remember?………..breathe……

Yes, Rich, he put Zoom in. In the above comments, I did mention it’s a good thing you were not actually watching this game. BTW, did you see Austin get hit in the head?

I went back and looked at a few selected innings. I saw the Jackson HBP. That pitcher had no idea where the ball was going and Torre lifted him right after that. The big fear here is how Jackson recovers from this. Some guys are never the same after a beaning. I’d hate to see Austin become an outstanding defensive centerfielder who can’t hit. He needs the confidence to go out and drive a pitch to right likes he’s been doing. Fingers crossed.
I thought this was “rivalry weekend” but we have the Dodgers, the Angels have the Cardinals, the Royals have someone else and Texas and Houston aren’t playing each other. So what’s the point of all this? Meanwhile, a struggling Twins team gets well playing a bad Milwaukee ballclub while we get the hottest team in the NL. This is no way to decide a division race. Can I run for commissioner?

You got my vote Rich!
