Tigers-Yankees rained out

Tonights Tigers-Yankees game has been rained out and will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader tomorrow at 1:05 and 7:05. Javier Vazquez will start for the Yankees in the day game, followed by Phil Hughes. Waiting to hear what the Tigers will do with their starters.

As I throw another log in the ol’ woodstove and head off to bed, I can only imagine how much fun you guys must have had watching the game last night. I see they were rained out tonight. Same weather here in western NY. I live 300 miles from NYC but, in the wisdom of mlb, am factored as being in the Yankee market. So I’ll be listening and game daying only to the rest of this series.

I did see the video of Jose Feliciano singing the National Anthem on the Tiger’s site. I liked it although it seemed his guitar was not getting picked up very well. I remember the big controversy over it back in 68 although, strangely, I don’t remember hearing it back then. So I felt like I was hearing it for the first time today. Ernie was ahead of his time wasn’t he. I always liked Jose, although I never owned any of his albums…..those 33 long plays kids. Always liked his acoustic version of Light My Fire. Smooth.
.
So when you’re watching tomorrow’s game, think of your less fortunate Tiger bud, then, after that first pitch, enjoy the game.

We only got 52 degrees here today. This is May?

You know, another thing about watching Feliciano last night: I was in the centerfield upper bleachers that day 42 years ago (lucked into a ticket) so Jose was right beneath me. Over in leftfield, Willie Horton. Over in right, Al Kaline. It was especially poignant to me last night when they showed closeups of Willie and Al during the playing of the song because I can still see that vista like it was yesterday.

Well it was a miserable day yesterday – it was raining cats and dogs all day long. It did start letting up around 7:30 but was still drizzling at least at my house at 8:30. As my Dad would of said “it was not fit for man nor beast”!!!!
Unfortunately it doesn’t look great for today but probably playable but rain a possibility all day. Tomorrow looks like thunderstorms all day long. Supposed to go to the game tonight, not real sure that I want to go.
.
Rich the big difference between Chicago rain delay and ours yesterday is that it was still raining at game time – and from one of my sales reps who lives in Chicago the rain stopped and the sun was out three hours before the game was scheduled to start.
.
Anyway GO TIGERS Oh it also looks like we are going to get the Red Soxs when they have started to play well and it also looks as though we are going to see their toughest pitchers.

Yes, weather has been horrible lately. I think it has rained for over 24 hours straight. The radar kept looking like it would clear, then somehow there was more out there.

Somehow playing a day/night doubleheader on a soggy, 50 some degree day doesn’t sound appealing to me!

Let’s hope they get these games in today. And that Ricky is able to find his groove again.

G-Man threw a pretty decent game last night for Toledo. He’s ready, or at least as ready as he’ll ever be. Important for Willis and Bonderman to string together some positive outings. Shoot, for Scherzer to, for that matter.
.
BTW, they have a closer on the farm who has numbers rivaling Vlaverde. Jay Sborz down there has been almost unhitable.
.
There is talk of sending Boesch down when Guillen returns. I hope the kid makes it absolutley impossible to do that.

Well, if they had played last night there wouldn’t have been anyone in the stands. It was that miserable. The weather here in mid Michigan feels much warmer than yesterday but the sky is just one big dark cloud. We’ll see what happens this afternoon.

Seeing and hearing Jose Feliciano brought back many memories. I was a big fan of his and bought at least one album. LIGHT MY FIRE was a big hit. Yea, Ernie was ahead of his time, Marty. He already had a foot in heaven for all those years.

Rayburn goes down and Figaro coming up to help the pen. This is short team help for the bullpen until Carlos is activated. Rayburn needs to play everyday to get his stroke back and hopefully gets extra work on defense. Figaro has been the best starter at Toledo this year and will bring some temporary long relief help that will likely be needed today. Hopefully, Porcello can go seven strong, but Bondo even if he pitches well will only go six innings maximum.
.
Boesch has taken advantage of his chance with Carlos going down. When Carlos is back, Boesch will lose so at bats, but I like his potential and he looks like a guy who will come off the bench swinging.

The Figaro call up has put a new wrinkle in the Guillen-Boesch decision. It’s entirely possible to leave Raburn at Toledo when Carlos returns. I hate to say this, but it’s entirely likely that Guillen will be injured again. That must be terribly frustrating for him. Regarding Boesch, I wouldn’t mind seeing him hone some of his other baseball skills; outfield play, baserunning, etc. If he hasn’t picked it up by now, however, I doubt he’d learn it at Toledo. A big part of Brennan’s game seems to be confidence. While a big positive, that can also be a negative when it comes to learning. Meanwhile, I also hope he makes the decision an impossible one.
.
So Figaro will probably start on Sunday. That would jibe with JL’s usual M.O. in these situations.

Anytime the Yankees, Red Sox, or ESPN are involved, little things become large. Now it’s Valverde. I may have this wrong, but after Inge beat him in Houston last year, didn’t Valverde fall flat on his back beside the mound? That’s just fun stuff, even when he’s beat. There are enough robots playing. Joe DiMaggio retired 59 years ago.

Well the weather is still crap here – cold and damp but not raining. Just gave away my tickets for tonight. I have no desire to go sit is this crap especially (and I hate to say it) we will get our buts kicked tonight Hughes vs. Bondo.?????
.
I think that you are right Rich, I think that Figaro will have to pitch on Sunday. Sunday would of been Porcello’s day to pitch and with the rainout, it would only be 4 days rest.

I just saw the clip from Valverde’s 3 strike outs on Monday, and he sure is animated. I can love it from my team, but can only imagine how ticked off he can make the opponents. He is quite the amazing pitcher though, and I do like personality. I think I like Dontrelle for that, and I always liked Lima for that, he was fun to watch too.
