Thursday: Tigers vs. Twins

Let’s be honest, if you’re going to have a Weather Day promotion at a Tigers game, there’s no better timing than April, when Michigan can give you just about anything for weather. After back-to-back night games with legitimately chilly temperatures, we’re looking at a really beautiful afternoon for a baseball game.

Adam Everett is back in the Tigers lineup after missing the last four games with a tweaked right hamstring. Jim Leyland was concerned about Magglio and a tight muscle around his abdominal area, but apparently he’s ready to play.

On the Twins’ side, Michael Cuddyer’s absence leaves the Twins with little choice but to put up a left-handed hitting Jim Thome against Dontrelle Willis today.

If Maggs has some kind of injury why not DH him – let Boesch play right and Damon left. Damon hasn’t played in the field in three or four games?? Ramon should be in the lineup – he is one of the only guys on the team who have some numbers against Cy Pavano.
.
Did you see that we get Cy Pinero over the weekend. YES??

Well, I’m a total Johnny Damon convert. An independent spirit who is intelligent, but still has a little blue collar in him. He loves the limelight but shares it with his teammates and is just a true professional. I don’t know where this team would be without him. I wouldn’t mind keeping him around for another year.

Riddle me this Tigers fans – I was looking at Cy Pavano’s splits and his ERA is 6.35 against lefties and 2.25 against righties. So why do we have 7 righties in the lineup???? Why not more lefties – Santiago at least at 2nd.

The Tigers have to win this game today. This could be the worst lineup the Twins could put together this year (and it is still decent). Let’s bring Pavano back to Earth!

That’s how you manufacture a run!

Another milestone for Maggs, he past Rocky Colavito for #160 on all time RBI list. Next up for him, our ol’ pal Willie Horton.

I had no idea that Jackson was so high on the hit list. With all his strikeouts it just doesn’t seem possible. GO TIGERS
.
GREAT JOB by Dontrelle. That is a start that he can be proud of.

Nice Win Tigers!!!
.
I think that Cuddyer was safe, but again Twins fans can cry me a river! Don’t think that it would of made a difference but you never know. Valverde cracks me up – he is one excitable guy.
.
Dontrelle today was great! Hope that is a good sign of things to come for him and the Tigers. I want him to succeed – he is too young and too nice of a guy to have his career fizzle like it had.
.
Congrats to Magglio – for 2000 & 2001

Yeah, congrats to D-Train with this win. He deserved it so much! Six scoreless innings! I like to watch Tigers beating Twins. Good win, GO TIGERS!

I don’t care how we beat the Twins, as long as we beat them. Maybe we got a few lucky breaks with their injuries and questionable calls, but the Twins have had more than their fair share of good luck.

So glad I decided to get mlb audio so I can listen to the play by play on these day games.
*
How mad would Tigers fans be if we had let Maggs go after last year? So happy for him and for us.
*
Go Tigers!

Way to take the series from those usually lucky Twins. Congrats to Maggs on 2000 hits and to Willis for finally getting a win this year after several strong efforts. He is the only starter that has not gotten blown up in a start. His second start of the year was not great, but I still contend that one fly should have been caught that cost him two runs.
.
Jackson looked like a leadoff hitter today in the first inning. Hit, steal, error and a sac fly, we looked like the Twins or Angels in the first.
.
Zumaya had another excellent effort and he blew Mauer away. How about Mauer only getting one hit in the series.

So I guess we found out what kind of team we have. Still contenders. Funny, since last September, we’re about the only club that can beat the Twins.
.
That first inning run is exactly what I’m talking about. Play for one run even if it is the first inning. I really liked seeing that. And Sizemore did some good baserunning later which set up our second run. It’s those little things, always. Always.
.
Dontrelle was even better than he’d been in ST. Isn’t that a great story that’s unfolding. That dude was pitching today.
.
The better Zumaya looks, the more petrified I become that he’ll be injured again. In past years, it didn’t really matter that much but it does now. He’s smooth as silk out there.
.
Finally, Pavano. It’s not like we lay down for this guy. He really does pitch well against Detroit. Wonder why that is? He obviously isn’t that dominant against other teams. It was good to get past him today, but he’ll be back around next week up in Minny.

Fabulous for Willis to get his first win for the season and thoroughly deserved. Ditto for Maggs who to me looks 10 years younger this year and many more pounds lighter.
Recent Tig teams would have capitulated by now given their awful schedule and Starters with only one win each.
Following our consecutive overnight travel schedule, I noticed the Angels like the Twins get the day off before meeting the Tigs.
.
I agree with you Pup, Damon has been the far and away the major positive change to the team chemistry, with Valverde also a significant addition with our relievers 2.22 ERA (Rockies 2nd on 2.45) easily the best in MLB despite having the third highest workload.
.
Porcello is the major concern with his pitching fooling no one with a 7.91 ERA and batters hitting .393. One more poor start combined with another quality GMan outing must lead to a spell to sort his mechanics out.
