Yes pup. It has looked unimpressive so far this year IMO. Clutch hits have not come byt those you would hope would produce. Lucky today on that error. Otherwise we look pretty limp.
.
Sizemore got his first hit but he has to be a bit smarter in the field. On the Grady SB he should have been at the bag and making it LOOK like a throw was coming. Grady might have been able to take 3rd if he is allowed to turn that bag at full speed. Not so much today but in a crucial game when you don’t want a runner perched on 3rd then the middle infielder has to thinking on ways to minimize potential damage.
.
Laird has to pick up his game. Does not look confident to me.

My God, our lineup has looked anemic so far.

Looks like we’re up against our 4th straight Cy Young candidate.

This was a perfect example of a major ooncern of Tiger fans for this year. The bottom of the lineup being so completely ineffective during those times when they need to contribute.
.
Laird swang at a horrible pitch and Sizemore was thinking about hitting the ball hard rather than hitting the ball well.
Everett of course is almost an automatic.

Funny how 1st & 2nd and no out for the Tribe seems more ominous than 2nd & 3rd and no out was for us.
.
This will be a big test for Zumaya. He often has control issues when he comes in with men on.

Well, they told us we’d have to be patient with Sizemore and they were’nt kidding. He’ll never come close to being a Polonco.

Finally, we get some runs driven in by Maggs!!!

We Win!

There were some very important positives to be taken from this game. Sizemore getting his 1st hit and turning DPs.
.
Jackson displaying his game changing speed.
.
Zumaya making life miserable for the hitters he faced.
.
Valverde getting that save.
.
Ordonez hitting in the 3rd spot.
.
A starting pitcher finally getting a W. (Porcello did have trouble with his command today but there is certainly no lack of composure in that fine young fellow).
.
We have other pieces of the puzlle that need to fall in place. Damon will start hitting and will be a major factor for the offense to work. Carlos will have to start slapping a few long balls. And Laird needs to stop pressing.
.

Good summation, Dan. My comment is “what he (Dan) said.”
.
The magical part of the TV broadcast was when they mentioned Ernie and showed his name on the outfield wall. At that moment, the sun broke through and a huge cheer went up. You can’t make this stuff up.
.
I’ll just comment on something I read in Jason’s article on the main site about Jackson learning CF at Comerica. Here’s the excerpt:
.
“It was also a day game, which Granderson used to note would present particular challenges tracking fly balls off the bat. Another past Tigers center fielder, Nook Logan, once noted that as well. One theory is that with the playing field below street level, the concourse reflects daylight at a level where Granderson and others were trying to pick up the path of the ball.”
.
I’m not sure what being below street level has to do with it, but I’m convinced this is true. The fact is, Comerica was poorly designed and the pitch of the lower deck is too flat. This causes visual problems for outfielders tracking flyballs and for fans trying to see around the big head in front of them. I still contend that, while Comerica is beautiful on TV, it remains the worst of the new parks that I’ve visited in regard to watching a game. In fact, I’d prefer taking my chances with those infamous posts in Tiger Stadium.
.
Sorry if I speak sacrilege. :-)

Hey just home from the game. FREEZING!! It was really a rather boring game for the most part. I think and still have hope that Laird is going to be fine. Really he has hit some balls well and hard, they just aren’t falling in. Everett hasn’t been that bad either. Johnny Damon has been disappointing to me so far, but he will work it out. Porcello was okay, not his best but still all of our starters have been effective other than Verlander, but I am also confident he will work it out. Big day for Bondo tomorrow. Pen has been good so far really. Valverde cracks me up, its nice to have a cornball like that on the team, what a character.

GK

nice linedrive single for Sizemore, to the opposite field. even though his results not great so far, I like what he’s doing as far as working the count and going with the pitch.
