Seay set to throw side session
Bobby Seay’s throwing program has progressed to the point that he’s ready to throw off a mound. That’s apparently coming up Tuesday in Lakeland, either live BP or a simple bullpen session. If he gets through that, he could be pitching in game action of some sort soon.
The Tigers have a simulated game Thursday to get innings for Max Scherzer while Dontrelle Willis starts in the regular game that day. Not sure if that would be an option for Seay at this point. Regardless, one could envision Seay pitching in game action of some sort by the end of the week.
That would give Seay around two weeks, maybe a little less, before the Tigers break camp and head north. If Seay needs 10 outings to get ready for the season, that clearly isn’t going to happen in that time frame. If he can be ready in, say, five or six outings, that might be doable. But manager Jim Leyland said he doesn’t have a number in mind.

I ended up watching much of today’s game on MLB.TV. I doubt that the regular season will go the way much of ST has, that is, high scoring affairs on both sides.
.
I heard Leyland say with certainty that Jackson will lead off and Damon will hit second. No surprise there, he’d decided that before ST even started. I just hope the kid can keep up what he’s been doing, which has been outstanding.
.
If anyone is interested, I saw the Jays play the Braves yesterday and Jason Heyward (Braves super prospect) hit two doubles. He looks like the real deal. Doesn’t look 20 years old. Reminds me of LeBron James in that regard, or maybe that Aden kid that Ohio State had.
.
I’m going to put in a plug for Dunedin for anyone planning a future ST trip. This is the second year that we’ve spent several days here. You have the Blue Jays ballpark within walking distance along a nice hike/bike trail and the Phillies at Clearwater are six miles away. It’s a quiet area with some quaint shops and plenty of restaurants (and pubs), and there’s also a beach and a state park within about five miles. Dunedin makes a great contrast to the hubbub of Orlando, which we also enjoy.
.
Any baseball fans who have never visited ST, do so. You won’t regret it. I’m also proud to say that the Tigers have one of the best ballparks in Florida, and I’ve visited a few.
