Figaro to start Saturday

Jim Leyland announced this afternoon that he’ll start rookie Alfredo Figaro Saturday against the White Sox. It’ll be his first start at any level since that outing at Houston in late June, when the Astros roughed him up. He was optioned to Triple-A Toledo right after that, but that move was cancelled when he was found to have a sprained right wrist, forcing him onto the DL. He returned in August for a late-season rehab stint at Double-A Erie, but he pitched for the SeaWolves as a reliever then, not a starter. The Tigers will have a few days to stretch him out.

By doing that, the Tigers leave Justin Verlander available on his normal rest to pitch Sunday’s regular-season finale if need be.

We’ve certainly run over a couple of unexpected land mines this final week. Here’s hoping Saturday’s game won’t be of any importance. I will say this: if we win this thing, we certainly deserve it. For darned sure.

we need at least one more against the twins. two would be great. figaro starting saturday scares me if its not clinched yet. i wonder if jl realizes having pitchers set up for the postseason doesnt matter if you dont get in

Your right Rich hopefully it doesn’t mean a thing. Figaro had one decent start and one poor start. I like you would of like to have seen Miner in there. I know they couldn’t put Porcello in there on only four days of rest that is for sure, but isn’t Miner a better option??

Last year Minor beat the Sox 2 or 3 times, He’d be my starter.

Escaped with our lives in first inning. Not a great start but at least we limited the damage.
