Tigers, Twins washed out

A line of showers and storms stretching across the state of Michigan washed out Monday’s opener of the Tigers’ critical series against the Twins at Comerica Park.

The postponed game will be made up Tuesday as part of a day-night doubleheader. First pitch for the opener will be at 12:05 p.m. ET, followed by the regularly-scheduled 7:05 p.m. contest. Tickets for Monday’s game will only be honored for the Tuesday afternoon game, while tickets for Tuesday’s game will be good for the night game only.

Monday’s original starters, Rick Porcello and Nick Blackburn, will pitch the opener. Justin Verlander and Brian Duensing will face each other in the nightcap as originally scheduled.

The twin-bill adds another subplot to a four-game set that is expected to go a long way towards deciding the winner of the American League Central.

Now that Porcello’s start has been pushed back a day, it raises intrigue as to what the Tigers might do with their rotation for his next turn. Porcello would’ve been on track to start Saturday against the White Sox, but he would now have to start that on short rest, a difficult situation for a 20-year-old rookie whose innings workload has been closely watched all year.

The Tigers could conceivably start Justin Verlander on three days’ rest if need be, but they had put him on track to pitch the regular-season finale if need be.

Obviously all of that will hinge on the outcome of this series. I suppose the Twins will face the same challenge with Blackburn and Duensing. Since this series is more likely to be split now, both teams will probably have to deal with it. The plot certainly does thicken.
Looking at the radar track in retrospect, it appears they may have gotten this one in, but the projected path was pretty negative looking. Too bad. Some folks who had tickets for tonight will have a hard time attending tomorow afternoon. And day games on both Tuesday and Thursday makes it difficult for us working stiffs who try to follow on TV. I’ll have to rearrange my schedule so I can see the game. First things first. 🙂

Well, not surprised in the least about the postponement. Weather has just been awful here in southcentral MI. I hope we win the first game tomorrow, but if we don’t, we’ll go for a win in the night game.

Go Tigers!!!!

I,too, am wondering who makes the call on the game. The forecast for today is worse than yesterday with the evening getting better. Wednesday is going to be sunny all day. Why not play the make up game on Wednesday? It was great to see the 1984 players and of course Sparky. Like Rich said, the best team wins. I just do not agree with our manager going lefty, righty. Put your best players in every day. How often did Sparky platoon?
Go Tigers! –Dave

Rich they never would of gotten the game in. It was raining all night (at least until I went to bed at 11:00). Unfortunately today doesn’t look a whole lot better – Dave (the weather guy) 70% of rain today, but periods of dryness. We will see. Boy does this stuff stress me out.

Shoot, it is so difficult to follow the game on the computer while at work – and for some reason my radio at work doesn’t pick up the game. I have tried to find a live stream from a radio station via my computer but no luck.

Sounds like the weather is going to make it interesting today, and might really screw up the rotation for both teams if today gets pushed back too. If they need me, I’ll start warming up…

I would have loved to have been there to see the ’84 team – didn’t really see much coverage of it though last night.

Well TG, I was in front the TV at 6:30. Then saw the ’84 players introduced and also Sparky. What a class guy because he called Ron, the Minny manager a great one and then said Jimmy L. was one of the best. I will go out on the limb here, the best team will win!
Go Tigers!

I’m seeing a 30% chance of rain throughout the day and the radar is clear right now. I think they’ll play ’em both. There will be high winds with gusts up to 40 mph, and they’ll be blowing OUT to leftfield. Those flyballs that Mauer sometimes lifts to leftfield will carry right out. Pound him inside. Jim, will ya put Raburn in there? Please?

Don’t want to jinx anything but at 9:54 am the sun is kinda out.
