Dontrelle battles command in rehab outing

Dontrelle Willis walked eight batters over four-plus innings in his rehab start for Triple-A Toledo Sunday night, taking the loss against the Pirates’ Triple-A Indianapolis affiliate.

Willis, whose previous rehab outing was shortened by an injured right hip, was not in sync from the start. He walked four of the first five batters he faced, the exception in that stretch being a single, to allow two runs before a two-out single plated two more runs. He faced just one batter over the minimum over his next three innings before he walked all three batters he faced in the fifth.

Mud Hens manager Larry Parrish made the pitching change at that point. Willis threw 44 of his 99 pitches for strikes.

What can you say?

It’s time- NO, it’s waaaay past time- to let Dontrelle go.
He was the worst pitcher in the National league when DD acquired him.
He should never have been traded for.
He certainly should never have been extended.
He didn’t earn a spot on the team last season.
He didn’t earn a call up last season, but they called him up anyway.
He didn’t earn a spot on the team this season, so they made up some crap about “performance anxiety”.
He didn’t earn a call up this season, but got called up anyway.
He’s done. Toast. Wasted. Gone. Finished. Kaput.
The egg will continue to drip on DD’s face until he is released.
Then, he can wipe it off and move on.

It is really hard to make any comments on Dontrelle. The empty feeling in my stomach is tempered by the $29m he is earning along the way. I suppose the roster expansion will enable DD to hold off the inevitable for this season at least. The past two years has sure been a tortuous sorry episode.
No way should anyone be in the clubhouse that is not going to be used. I wonder if Willis will this time try to pitch during the off-season. It would seem the only possible route for him to try and resurrect his career in 2010.

The Tigers have been able to get back to Rich’s 500 post break and we are yet again one win off reaching the 10 wins over 500 milestone. As always, a big game today.

Just to be clear, Dave, it’s not my stated goal to play .500 in the second half. I only used that level as an indication that we’re not undergoing one of those infamous collapses. :-)

Perhaps I can clear it up by saying that, what you meant to say about what I said was not what I meant when you thought I said what I did or did not mean, bearing in mind you meant well when you said what you thought on the subject of what I thought I meant to say without actually having said what I meant.
.
So that’s clear. :-)
