Magglio back in RF, Huff stays at DH

As Jim Leyland forecast last night, Magglio Ordonez is in the lineup batting sixth against Ian Snell, off whom he’s 3-for-6. But while Leyland pondered possibly switching up Carlos Guillen and Aubrey Huff, putting Huff in left field and Guillen DH, Leyland thought better of it today.

Gerald Laird is in the lineup to catch Justin Verlander, the one starter whom Leyland doesn’t want Alex Avila catching quite yet. He likes the roll that Verlander and Laird has gotten onto and he doesn’t want to disrupt that at the moment. Eventually, however, count on Avila catching Verlander at some point.

“He’ll catch everybody before it’s over,” Leyalnd said. “I didn’t say he’ll catch every day before it’s over. But if that bat stays like that, it’ll be hard to keep him out of the lineup.”

Typical Tigers let a high ERA pitcher in and out of trouble. And bam Ichiro gets a homerun. NICE guys great job at the plate. EVERYONE HAS HIT THIS GUY EVERYONE.

Only 2 runs down.

The problem is JV. He cant non give a homer each time his teammates fail to perform. Thats was the problem with Bondo and Robertson. He needs to be like Rodgers

There were 24 AL pitchers entering the day with at least 140 innings this year. Three had given up fewer HRs than Verlander.

C’mon G$$. We need a run.

What is going on with Grandy? I’ve never seen him like this.

How can this team let Verlander lose this gem he’s pitches. It just kills me that this team struggles to get even a few stinkin runs with the lineup they have. My God, it’s pathetic. How can they let him down like that.

I hate to bring this up now, but Brandon looks like he’s limping on that left leg. Maybe I’m just seeing things, but it looks like he’s favoring it.

AT least Maggs is toughing it out.

He’s not gonna pinch hit for Inge?

Surprise me, Brandon!

We’ve won these before.

Not tonight, though!

The whole south side of Chicago is probably cheering and celebrating like crazy. UGH@ !

An anemic, pathetic and horrible display of hitting by a professional team. The opposing pitcher enters the game with a 5.84 ERA and a 2-9 record and we get 4 hits and 1 run off him. We get a total of 6 hits in the game with Ordonez geeting three. Verlander pitched well enough to win but the 5th inning killed him after 2 outs. The bottom of our batting order is terrible. Inge, Laird and Santiago or Everett just plain can’t hit. Granderson is lost at the plate. Defense of course is important but if you cannot score runs it doesn’t matter. The pitching this year has been outstanding on the whole, the defense has been good but the lack of hitting is just plain not there. If we make the playoffs it will quickly kill us. Another thought why didn’t JL pinch hit Inge in the 9th he hadn’t gotten the ball out of the infield all night? So what does he do STRIKEOUT. Another excellent managerial move by JL and then he puts the burden on the rookie Avila. With this lack of hitting and the bright moves of JL holding onto 1st place is going to be difficult.

Well, this is how it’s been going the whole season. It would be nice if they all got hot at the same time, but frankly, we’ve won with pitching. Grandy needs a day off, imo.

Have to score more runs than that. That’s all I got.
JL mentioned the possibility of resting Granderson tomorrow, and possibly the next day. Both lefthand starters.

Well your pitchers shouldn’t have to go out there and pitch a shut out each time. I don’t know how many more times I can say I am disgusted with the plate appearances, how anemic the the hitting is. But to me this game was a low a real low. A pitcher who had only one two games and had nearly a 6 ERA and two hits off of him. How is it possible? Do they go into these types of games thinking heck this is going to be easy after seeing Felix last night?? Are they over confident (although I don’t know why they would be) or what??? Granderson watches the good pitches go by and swings at the bad pitches – he needs to figure it out because he is an automatic out right now. I don’t care how many plays he makes in the outfield he is killing us at the plate. When is the last time he did anything offensively to help this team?
But I hope they get a good nights rest. They have got to get the series win.
