Guillen has shoulder re-examined

The Tigers and Carlos Guillen are awaiting test results from another examination on his ailing right shoulder, which they hope provides some insight as to why his progress has been so slow.

Guillen, currently on the 15-day DL with right shoulder inflammation, said he visited a specialist last week during the Tigers’ just-completed homestand. They’re expecting to get results Tuesday. For now, though he’s working out, he still has soreness in his shoulder when he tries to swing.

“We’ll know more tomorrow,” manager Jim Leyland said Monday morning, “but I don’t think he’s doing good.”

Boy Larish has to change his approach to hitting in clutch situations. He has to cut down on the big swing and concetrate on run production and contact. Or, he will find himself back in Toledo. He has been coming up short IMO, at times where we need to get that runner in.

First hit in the 4th. let’s see how JV responds to this. We have seen him crumple up a bit when this happens.

He managed that one OK. If he comes back strong next inning I think he’ll go 8 today.

Granderson looks just plain awful. It actually hurts me to see him like this. He could use a little personal instruction from Mr Tiger.

Take that back about going 8. With the lead and the pitch count climbing Jl should be happy with 7.

Larish could find his way back to Toledo–LHB or not. He struck out 4 times today, looking horrible each time. At least 3 of those times came in innings where other Tigers were whacking the pitcher and scoring multiple runs.

Granderson at least came back after some poor ABs closing out with a couple of well struck base hits.

What was wrong with Gil Meche today? Whatever it was, I’ll take it. Could have used about three of those runs spread over Saturday and Sunday.

Good win to get, at a good time. Now there’s not so much pressure to beat Greinke tomorrow night. We’ll see how that goes, as we’ve got E-Jax going. Might want to look at some ways to create runs in that one.

A lot of the time you can see a guy coming out of a slump before he starts getting hits. I haven’t seen that with Granderson, so I’m not sure he’s out of the woods yet. His last hit was a good one. It’s obvious how much he jumpstarts the offense when he’s getting on base.

Larish is supposed to be a good hitter, but he’s not hitting good, excuse my grammar. At this point, he doesn’t have a position and he’s not productive, and Raburn is actually a more useful player. I think Jeff is one of the Chosen Ones, so he’ll be here awhile, especially with Guillen not being close. Thames is close, however, so somebody’s got to go.
.
I hope Verlander continues this dominance when I’m there Saturday night in Baltimore. He’s been consistently better than I’ve ever seen him.
.
And it’s another division win.

What more can you say about JV these days. Just awesome.

Have liked the way JL used the pen in recent games. Optimising the usage of the dynamic duo and showing some faith in the others has gone rewarded and kept the team in games despite the cold bats.

The No. 5 position looks like being a work in progress for some time with Carlos seemingly never able to get healthy. At least with Maggs back in 3, Miggs has a chance to drive some in.
None of the Kids have been up to the responsibility of a regular 1 to 5 position although Ramon has been given probably the least oportunity to play regularly. Let them get established and regularly producing down the order to earn promotion based on merit into the 1 to 5 pressure positions.
Raburn and Larish have hardly put fear in the opposition. JL could give Inge a try at 5 for a week or two before Thames returns.

JV is looking terrific these days, such an impressive month of May. I haven’t been on the board in over a week, was off work and generally off the computer, enjoying terrific weather and doing home projects. The Tigers have been on a nice run, getting terrific pitching and some good hitting. Some of the hitting has been too sparse for me (excluding yesterday of course) but the pitching has been strong, something we haven’t been much used to after last year! Glad to see the w’s!

as much as i like Guillen and Thames, i like Clete Thomas even better. So right know we have Maggs, Curtis, and Josh Anderson (who has no options left) for sure staying on the roster. I figure Raburn will get sent down and either Clete or Larish would be next one Guillen and Thames get back. I just hope it isnt Clete. he is the a key piece of the reason the Tigers are winning.
