Magglio to miss 2-3 games next week

Magglio Ordonez is expected to miss next week’s three-game series against the Rangers to tend to a personal matter, manager Jim Leyland said Saturday.

Ordonez will play Saturday and Sunday against the A’s, then will be away from the team. Leyland indicated he could be back on Thursday, but probably not in time for the afternoon game against Texas.

Neither Ordonez nor the Tigers would get into specifics about the reason at this time. Ordonez said he would not be traveling home to Venezuela.

“I’ll be staying around here,” Ordonez said.

The absence comes at a time when Ordonez is starting to heat up at the plate following his slow start. He entered Saturday’s game against Oakland on a six-game hitting streak, during which he was 9-for-22. The latest was a three-hit game Friday that included his third double in the last five games after he went without one for the first 29 contests.

The streak raised Ordonez’s average on the season to .258 with two home runs and 16 RBIs, a far drop from his numbers the past two seasons but better than his .241 average in April.

Personal issues make it hard to comment on but it is a shame that this has happened at a time where he looks like he is starting to hit the ball.
Be nice to see the Rangers throw RHPs against us and get a chance to see Josh get some reps.
Porcello has to pitch well the next couple of games. no telling what DD and JL will do to the rotation when Bonderman returns.
