Happy Mother's Day

Today will again feature the annual Mother’s Day tradition of using pink bats. Most, if not all, of the Tigers in the lineup today are expected to participate. If the offense picks up, it’s a ready-made story. Problem is, you can’t use the pink bats after Mother’s Day, though I think some guys have tried.

Jeff Larish is getting a second straight game in the lineup, this time at DH. Manager Jim Leyland said last night and again this morning that the regular at-bats at Triple-A Toledo seem to have helped Larish out. The Tigers face two more right-handed starters at Minnesota coming up, so this could be a chance for Larish to get some at-bats.

NANDO- it is beyond me why any manager brings a closer into a game in a non-save situation??? It is NEVER NEVER good, I don’t care who you are, it always seems to be aweful.
But besides that Porcello was good, hitting was still suspect, 4 ground into double plays – that is pathetic. But the rest of the pen was good. On to Minnesota – I hate watching games there.

THE GOOD: A sweep in Cleveland, 5 of 6 over all. Best record in divisional games. Ever since the public scolding they received after the Pavano game, the Tigers have excelled, losing only to a couple of good pitchers on their game.
THE BAD: The hitters were very impatient today for some reason. I don’t think Reyes could have thrown 3 strikes before throwing 4 balls. The Laird AB in the 4th was brutal, hitting into a first pitch DP after two consecutive walks.
THE UGLY: I’m not buying into the “non-save situation” thing. What is happening is Rodney is becoming the old Rodney, overthrowing his fastball. ‘Nando, low 90s under control with your changeup is all that’s necessary. I’m sure Rick Knapp is telling you that. At this point, I’m leaning towards Zumaya closing, although that would remove Zoom from the important setup role.
A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS: Dontrelle Willis starts Wednesday at the Metrodome.
FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE: Doesn’t it seem like we get the most production from the lowest paid players?
–Rich aka Clint Eastwood

Tori Hunter just saved Fuentes with a “Grandy-like” catch. Tigs are tied for first. Let’s keep it rollin, fellas. Looking ahead, June is going to be a tough month– BoSox, WhiteSox, Cardinals, Angels just to name a few. Be nice to have a little cushion going into that month.

Rich, you’ve made my (baseball) day.
The guys keep performing, usually in unexpected ways which is great for the team perspective. Everett is now playing great defense without those early errors and his bat keeps surprising when it is needed.
Rodney has been overthrowing for a while now. With a day off and a good lead, JL must have hoped he would be able to use this start to get back in sync.
Great weekend for Larish. If I was Josh, I think I might change deoderants.

Rich, I just finished watching Clint Eastwood’s “The Unforgiven”, believe it or not, for the first time. Then I come on here for one last read for the night and your talkin’ about the great spaghetti western trilogy that changed westerns forever. Well, except for “The Unforgiven” and a handful of others, they just don’t make them any more anyway. Too bad because frankly they’re a lot better than most of the drivel Hollywood cranks out these days. Then again maybe I’m just and old curmudgeon……..
Anyway, all I have to say tonight is that we’ve finally gotten our wish in how this team is built. Good pitching and good defense, with just enough offense, will win more often than not. Let’s hope they keep it going and also that someone continues to step up to provide the offense…. And up to now it has been “just” enough. Fun having some speed out there on the bases, and also watching these outfielders running down some well hit balls isn’t it?:-)

Super weekend series for Tigers! In First place for the moment!!! ROAR!!!

I hope Maggs does keep his pink bat and sleeps with it!
That would be cool if it brought him out of the slump.. not to mention, some notoriety, advertising the awarness for cancer!
Lousiville Sluggers aught to love that!!

Poor Mig Cab, those pink laces just didn’t do it today!

Good baseball, but have to say “F-Rod scares me!”.. What would have happened if it were only a one or two run game?… Jeepers! What’d he do?, watch Todd Jones films this winter? ha ha ha…Back to that roller-coaster feeling again!
