The thing about Cleveland

One of the unique things about Progressive Field is that the visiting clubhouse has two arcade games right in the middle of the lockers. One of them is Golden Tee, which figures. The other is Big Buck Hunter. It’s tough to find a player who doesn’t like one or the other. The games end up being a release for players after a game.

Nate Robertson remembers a tough time last season and firing away at the hunting game with Kenny Rogers.

“I think we had back-to-back rough starts here,” Robertson said, “and we pulled up here and stayed past closing.”

They’re far from the only ones to have taken out their frustrations on that game. It’s a great stress relief for visiting players.

Happy Mother's Day

Today will again feature the annual Mother’s Day tradition of using pink bats. Most, if not all, of the Tigers in the lineup today are expected to participate. If the offense picks up, it’s a ready-made story. Problem is, you can’t use the pink bats after Mother’s Day, though I think some guys have tried.

Jeff Larish is getting a second straight game in the lineup, this time at DH. Manager Jim Leyland said last night and again this morning that the regular at-bats at Triple-A Toledo seem to have helped Larish out. The Tigers face two more right-handed starters at Minnesota coming up, so this could be a chance for Larish to get some at-bats.
