Bullpen fact from Elias

From Elias Sports Bureau: Those four perfect innings from Nate Robertson, Bobby Seay, Ryan Perry and Fernando Rodney Saturday marked the first time since 2004 that Detroit’s bullpen had thrown four innings in a game without allowing a runner to reach base.

In case you were curious, that game was June 27, 2004 against Arizona at Comerica Park, one of the walkoff victories against the Diamondbacks that weekend. Danny Patterson replaced Mike Maroth with nobody out in the sixth and retired all four batters he faced before Jamie Walker went 2 2/3 perfect innings with three strikeouts. Detroit came back from a 5-2 deficit to tie it before Carlos Pena hit a walkoff grand slam in the bottom of the ninth.

I hope we start to see some offensive contribution from ordonez and Guillen. Right now you don’t get the felling they are ‘dangerous”. I know Orodnez has gotten some hits but he has k’d a few times when you NEEDED a hit. Just prior to MCab’s grandslam is an example. We need these guys –the DVs (Designated Venezuelans) to handle the middle of the lineup

Verlander threw a pretty one yesterday. Good to see him stay composed (at least I think he did) after the errors that took away his chance of winning the game.
8 Ks and 6 of them were against LHB. Impressive.
I would suspect we are quite likeyl to see Lyon in Today’s game. If he can’t get hitters to hit the ball on the ground I don’t see any value in thinking he will be helpful.

Ordonez overarching tendency to 1st pitch swinging is never something I will ever agree with. He can hit deep in the count and though his previous numbers of 1st pitch hitting may be good , I don’t think they are likely to continue.

That was a pretty impressive effort and gotta give Carlos credit for clutching up. Inge is playing on an elevated level right now and it pretty nice to see him so stoked. He is 90% of the reason they won today’s game.
To win a gme that they were never in is H-U-G-E.
Great work and nice to Lyon meet with some success and contribute.
Ordonez is really starting to worry me though. He used to eat up situations like 1 out and 2nd and 3rd.

Awesome comeback. A perfect example of why it’s crucial to not give up any extra runs once you’ve spotted the opposition a lead. Jackson did a decent job of managing the trouble he got himself into outside of the two taters, and Lyon managed to bridge the gap until the endgame. Sounded like he had better stuff than the last few times and induced some grounders.
On a completely unrelated note, did anyone see that we had to let go of Timo Perez & Alexis Gomez? The combination of Clevlen & Hessman clearing waivers and Raburn being sent down means there just wasn’t room for them. Hopefully they’ll catch on with someone looking for depth at AAA.
