Zumaya now "highly unlikely" for opener

He threw another side session today, apparently was fine. The next step, according to manager Jim Leyland, is whether to have Zumaya throw another side session or to start having him throw in camp games.

If that sounds like a timetable that isn’t going to have him ready for Major League games when the season starts in 11 days, you’re not the only one thinking that. Leyland said it’s “highly unlikely” that Zumaya will be ready for Opening Day.

I’d assume Rhymes is still here to spell Polanco, since Santiago will be busy covering short while Everett recuperates. Larish seems on track to make the club, but I still don’t know who would be the backup centerfielder.
.
Looks like we spend the next ten days or so playing the Nationals and Braves.
.
Man, that Cabrera is something. You can hear the sound of the ball off his bat on the radio. It makes that special sound.

I think they made a mistake with sending Fien down. He is exactly what the tigers and the bullpen needs.
.
Rincon will certainly make the team.
.
Williamson won’t.
.
I think Rpada vs Bloom is still up in the air.
.
Dontrelle needs a change of scenery. He may be the type that needs a change of scenery twice a year. I hope it is not an internal change and we are somehow able to foist him off on someone else. You win some you lose some and DD made a mistake on this one. I would not fault him for trying though. I would fault him if he stupidly hangs on to the misguided ntotion that Willis will self correct.
.
Porcello needs more time.
.
Zumaya is on the cusp of becoming a folk-hero like “The Bird”.
.
Ordonez, Guillen and Sheffield have to find a way to play with the young guys. Their age is showing.
.
Don’t think we will see Brent Clevlen in a Tigers uni again.
.
Robertson will be the 5th starter and we should be eternally grateful if he can win 10-12 this year.
.
DD has done the right thing with Ledezma, Pudge, Maroth, Ledezma, De la Cruz, Miller and Maybin (despite D Train), Renteria (though I’d rather still have JJ).
.
Wouldn’t break my heart to see Inge go–or Ordonez.
.
Perry has the makeup to successfully transition to the bigs right now.
.
It will be the dumbest thing imaginable if Larish is sent down.
.
Shame on the Venezuela Beisbol hierarchy for not playing Guillen in LF. I can understand their desire to win but this was a relatively safe and at the same time, honourable, thing for their mangement to do-at least once!
.
This is a big year (in terms of maturity) for Justin Verlander.
.
It’s kind of pitiful to hear Dontrelle minimize and excuse his pitching performance thus far–an then top it off by almost begging to make the team.
.
I predict Sheffield will hit #500
.
Best of luck to Mike Hessman.
.
Ryan Raburn will end up in the National League and hit .260
