I’m a little surprised that it’s a one-year deal, but not surprised at the amount. Just under $5M, within the budget. Barring a trade, I think we’ve got our 2009 club for the most part. I liked that Lyon wasn’t promised the closer’s job, but was confident that he would win it. When you think about it, though, you’ve got one guy (Rodney) who doesn’t want it, and the other guy (Lyon) who does. Kind of a no-brainer.
As many of you probably did, I watched game 4 of the 2006 ALCS on the MLB Network today. I was struck by how crisply and intelligently the Tigers played the game, and it was with basically the same guys we’ve got now. I’m going to continue to believe that we have as good a chance as any to win the division. We don’t have a Boston or New York or Los Angeles standing in our way. Even KC can win this division.
In case you didn’t see this, here’s a link to Jim Leyland singing at Motown:
You don’t want to miss this.
Purchased my final set of spring training tickets today, so the countdown is on.
