Porcello fourth on MiLB.com's Top 50 prospects

It’s partly a company plug, but also a good sign of where Porcello ranks compared to the rest of the prospects around baseball. Plus, the story includes some footage of Porcello from Class A Lakeland. He ranked just ahead of former Tigers prospect Cameron Maybin. The only three ahead of him were Braves outfielder Jason Heyward, O’s catching prospect Matt Wieters, and some Rays pitcher named David Price.

I was fortunate enough to see Porcello pitch against Cleveland last spring training. I was impressed with his compact delivery (a good example of it is in the mentioned video) and his fearless use of his secondary pitches in fastball counts. Hard to believe I was watching a 19-year old. I can’t wait for him to get here.

Renteria was bored? Bored?!? At least he got paid for it, because he was the most boring Tiger I’ve seen in years. Might have to go all the way back to say, Don Demeter. In fact, I was considering a post on this subject last season. I couldn’t see a way to post pictures on the blog, but my idea was to post several duplicate shots of him, then give each one a title, such as “Edgar happy” and “Edgar angry” and “Edgar delighted” and “Edgar celebrating” and, well you get the point. The title of the piece was to be “The Many Faces of Edgar Renteria.”

Now that Mr. Excitement is gone, I think I’d prefer Nick Punto over Adam Everett. Everett would do as a backup for Santiago, though.

I don’t think trading Zach Miner is wise. Just because a guy is in the big leagues doesn’t mean he’s through developing. I see a future for Zach.
.
The results of any upcoming trades will have a lot to do with our decision whether to go to spring training again this year. Right now the jury is out. The jury consists of only my wife and I, but I often get outvoted. :-) By the way, SHE is the one who wants to go to spring training the most.

THE TIGERS, OR TURTLES, ARE VERY SLOW PLAYERS. ONE PLAYER IN TOLEDO STOLE 71 BASES, THE ENTIRE TIGER TEAM MAY NOT HAVE STOLD 71 BASES. WHY IS HE NOT PLAYING ON THE TIGERS TEAM, INSTEAD WE ARE USING SOMEONE WHO ISN’T EVEN HALF AS FAST. HOW ABOUT USING RICKY HENDERSON AS A STOLDEN BASE COACH, THEN MAYBE WE CAN SCORE SOME RUNS WITHOUT THEM NEEDING TO BE HOMERUNS.
