The rain has finally ended

The White Sox just announced they’re hoping to get the field ready for a 5:15 or 5:30 ET start. That would make this a straight doubleheader, though I’m not sure what this would do for the ESPN broadcast.

Here are the lineups for Game 1 …

TIGERS (70-76)

  1. Granderson, CF
  2. Polanco, 2B
  3. Ordonez, RF
  4. Cabrera, 1B
  5. Joyce, LF
  6. Sheffield, DH
  7. Larish, 3B
  8. Renteria, SS
  9. Ryan, C

WHITE SOX (81-65)

  1. Orlando Cabrera, SS
  2. Dewayne Wise, LF
  3. Jermaine Dye, RF
  4. Jim Thome, DH
  5. Alexei Ramirez, 2B
  6. A.J. Pierzynski, C
  7. Ken Griffey Jr., CF
  8. Nick Swisher, 1B
  9. Juan Uribe, 3B

Ya I am a little shocked that they would attempt to start the play of this game so late since they are supposed to start a game on national tv at 8:00. I would imagine that they had to get permission since there is no way that the second game will start on time.
JASON. Do you know if this game is going to be on local FSN or is it radio and MLB tv only? Please if anyone knows please let me know. I have 94 year old Grandmother that lives and breaths the Tigers and will be very disappointed if she won’t be able to listen. She is blind but still likes to listen to Rod and Mario. I think for some reason she finds them easier to follow rather than listening to the radio.

Polanco and those other guys got more than the two days off, didn’t they? Seems to me that if I was looking to rest people, I’d take a look at the weather forecast. As it turns out, we nearly got no-hit for no reason. Or maybe JL doesn’t believe in radar or forecasts either. Seems like any for profit organization that makes it’s living outdoors would have someone assigned weather duties. It didn’t take Jim Cantori to see this coming.
We may end up being stuck with Hawk and DJ after all. On the other hand, I tried to find the Nationals game today and it wasn’t on TV anywhere. Dont know how that happened.

Game is on 1270 AM (in Detroit)

The first game is AM 1270 only, though you can get it on MLB.TV if you live outside the Detroit blackout region. I’m not sure what ESPN is planning on doing when their broadcast starts at 8pm ET if the second game hasn’t started yet.

I’m watching the game on and the crowd is very sparse. It sounds like an echo when they hit the ball. Very strange.

ESPN has their show “Baseball Tonight” starting at 5:00 CT so maybe they’ll say on there when they will start broadcasting the second game.

It’s going to be a late night, I wonder if the Tigers will fly to Dallas right after the second game ends or wait until Monday morning.

ESPN’s Karl Ravich just said they would join the Tigers-Whitesox game at 8:00 ET for the end of the first game, then broadcast the entire second game whatever time it starts. Sounds like we get bonus coverage.

This season has been like cartoon carnival. When was the last time the Tigers won a nationally televised game?

What is the magic number? It would almost be easier if the Sox put us out of our misery right now.

Setting a lineup is like eating at a Chinese Restaurant. Pick one from list A, one from list B, etc. Changes from day to day.

I see Sheffield is raking today too. How much does he make an at-bat?

well I didn’t think that there is anyway that this game would get over by eight. However all batters especially ours seem like they are rushing to get this game over. Justin is going to be the reciever or lack of I should say runs.
Pathetic. And now Justin is getting hit

Well the three positives, we were not shut out. Although they seemed pathetic at the plate (although I am just going by what they said on the radio, I could not see it). Secondly Justin had a pretty good outing. However it is not going to seem as good as it was since in the eighth well he gave up three hits after having two outs. We got a couple of hits off of Jenks including a homer too bad they tacked on those runs in the eigth and we probably won’t see him in the second game since he was already used today. Kinda suprised that Guillen went with him in a non save situation. Seemed like they were pretty lathargic though.

Kind of remind you of another rainy series were they sat around a lot before getting to play. (World Series 2006)

I doubt if these guys have swung a bat in three days. Factor in that nasty stuff Vasquez was featuring and the result is not surprising.
Verlander pitched a good game, perhaps for the same reasons, until the 8th. Looked like he was just throwing them up there at the end. His pitch count wasn’t very high, but I think most of our pitching staff has bought into a “seven innings tops” mindset.
Anyway, that’s another season series lost to Chicago. Looks like we’ll lose the season series to every Central Division team. How does anyone explain that?
I assume Inge has flown out? Hawk and DJ assumed that Ryan must be a good baserunner since Brandon didn’t pinch run for him. They also gave the wrong answer to the trivia question.
