Monday: Tigers vs. A's

Back to work after the Twins series and in time to cover the sequel to the simulated game between Dontrelle Willis and Freddy Garcia. Garcia threw around 67 pitches, a lot of them fastballs and changeups, and said he felt good. Willis went around 82 pitches and showed some pretty good command, especially hitting the inside corner, which he said is something he didn’t do a whole lot in past years. No word yet on the Tigers’ next move for either of them, but if they’re going to get into game action, it appears it won’t be until at least the middle of the next week, since the rotation is pretty much set through next Monday.

Carlos Guillen, meanwhile, is running, throwing and swinging a bat without contact, but hasn’t yet taken batting practice. That could happen today. Still, it doesn’t appear he’ll play in the next day or two.

It has been raining all day in in GR. I hope that my favorite TV show is not cancelled. Hey GK, I always try to stay positive, like great job guys for taking the series in Minnesota! Keep winning 2 out of 3 and we can look for great things in 2009. I would like to see more of Dusty behind the plate and Inge at 3rd. If we throw strikes, we have the hitters to score us some runs. Our line up 1 thru 4 is dangerous so if 5-7 (and maybe 8,9) hit their average, well…. Go Tigers! –Dave

Oh yea, Willis, Garcia, and Bondo for 2009. Who is going to show up? Let’s have some chemistry and get well Carlos!

Looks like the tarp is coming off the field, so they will try to get this one in even though at my house it is raining pretty good.

I wish Carlos would get back in and I hope that we see more of Ryan.

I cannot see what it would hurt to have Garcia and Willis try to pitch in a game. Earlier in the year I believe Jl did it with Galarraga and Willis. Frankly I would rather see that than one of my favorites pitch Robertson. And I do mean that he is one of my favorite personalities on the team.

I agree Inge at 3rd as his only place – a team spark with great defence together with 70RBI’s is none too shabby.
However, it is good that Hessman is still at 3rd – if guys are good enough to be called up to the team, they deserve at least 2 full weeks to prove themselves.

Who would you pull to give Lambert and Garcia a go? You would want to keep evaluating Miner and Lambert, Verlander needs to stay to work out his problems leaving Gman (a given for next year) and Kenny.
I wouold like to see Garcia in for Kenny with Willis staying with the team and maybe taking one of Gman’s starts at right at the end of season.

Whew, Zach had a rough one there in the 1st. It could have been a whole lot worse though. 40 pitchers in that inning may take a toll. He could really use a couple of 10 pitch innings now.

Afflack Question: Could it be Mr Tiger?

Good thing we’ve scored 12…….I hope it’s enough.

For the record, Sheff’s grand slam was the 250K hr in MLB history
