Saturday: Tigers vs. White Sox

Curtis Granderson is 0-for-6 lifetime against White Sox left-hander John Danks, but he’s leading off Saturday nonetheless. At this point, manager Jim Leyland said, Granderson is the everyday leadoff hitter, regardless of the opposing starter. His improvement against left-handed pitching has been notable.

Danks does mean, however, that Marcus Thames is back in the lineup after having the last three games off. Matt Joyce sits.

  6. Sheffield, DH
  7. Thames, LF
  8. Renteria, SS
  9. Inge, C

WHITE SOX (58-43)

Somebody asked whether Carlos Guillen’s wife was still in the hospital. The good news from Carlos is that she was able to go home today.

I wrote a ranting message on the previous posting. This one just came up. If you have the time check it out and would appreciate your impreessions and thoughts.

yeah same here

I asked about Mrs. Guillen. Thanks Jason. Let’s just hope she stays home this time.
Gregg and Mike, timing is everything. 🙂 I’d hate to think they’re playing guys just because of contracts. In fact, I don’t want to think about it. I will say, Gregg, that I was a Lions season ticketholder once, but now I don’t even check their scores in the news. Let’s hope the Tigers don’t go down that road.
Folks, you realize……….if there’s a save to be had tonight, it’s likely Todd Jones will be called upon to convert it. “Get him right back out there.” Just giving fair warning……………
I HOPE we’re not going with a strict R-L platoon with Thames and Joyce.

I would guess the R-L platoon with Thames and Joyce is exactly what Leyland is going to do. Joyce has looked bad against lefties so I could understand that but Marcus’ numbers are pretty good right or left and for power. Thames is a power hitter so you’re going to have days where he strikes out a couple of times and thats just the way it is. But the return that you get back is well worth it in my eyes. I would think his teammates have to be wondering why he doesn’t play at least every 5 out of 6 games.
We have to win handily tonight and go into the late innings with at least a 4 run lead. I can’t take another one like last night from Jones. Plus I don’t think I can pick up my big screen to throw it out the window.
Go Tigers!

Hope Justin comes out throwing hard and the boys bats are catching up with Danks tonight.Come on Tigers!Lets get one back

Mike and Greg, enjoyed both your blogs.

Great news regarding Amelia!

Justin is horrible tonight. They are working and working him. This is not the start that we needed. On the other hand Danks is getting our batters out with ease and with very few pitches. I don’t like this guys strike zone though

The score’s not out of hand, but we’ll need Fossum tonight. 83 pitches in 3 innings is ridiculous. What a night for JV not to have it.

Mario was just talking about how Leyland said Granderson would hit leadoff the rest of the season regardless of pitcher. My wife is walking through the room and says “till tomorrow.” Ya gotta love it.

We’ll have to keep that statement in the JL BS bank Rich..
JV was due for a letdown. You can’t take it personally agianst Justin for not being able to replicate what he had been doing his last 8 starts. This guy is still one of the best pitchers in the game. He won’t be able to go much further in this one as the pitch count will have JL yanking him after 5.
Sheffield drives me nuts. He hits a bases empty HR and it will be significant enough for JL to justify his insertion in the lineup for another 2 weeks. Where is that HR when you have the bases occupied?
Renteria just backed off on a ball that should have been caught by him. Carlos made the play and a very good one for a 3rd Baseman with a bad angle on the ball.
I find myself resenting Leyland for going with Renteria and Sheffield. I would like to be proven wrong on both of these opinions but on the other hand I am hoping that something materializes as far as replacements go.

Well Guys, Were back in this one. I think this is what Tiger Girl means by medium ball.Come on Tigers! Hope the bullpen is on tonight

Now why wouldn’t you have Fossum warming up to start this inning? Save Seay for a later lefty situation. Now what’s he going to do?
