As expected, Carlos Guillen is out today. His wife gave birth to daughter Camelia yesterday here in Detroit. He’ll likely be back on Wednesday.

Excellent comments here. Rich, you mentioned that you thought Edgar could and should hit .290 with 12HR’s and some RBI’s (say 60-65). I think you are very close on those expectations. And they would be good numbers for a solid defensive catcher. But they are not good enough for a short stop with limited range- the guy who should be your best defensive player. It’s exactly why Santiago should be playing short stop and Inge 3B. When they get back I hope JL will do the right thing and play them regularly.
And with the Tigers at .500 after 88 games, management should not be remotely considering trading youth for “impact players”. If anything, the Tigers need to be selling, not buying. If the youthful talent they already have cannot help them make the playoffs, they’re not going to find any answers elsewhere this year.

Oh, and most importantly, congratulations to Carlos, his wife, and his family. Children are a wonderful gift.
