Thames in left, Renteria rests

Indeed, Marcus Thames gets the start in left field against the right-hander Tim Lincecum, who has served up just three home runs over 90 2/3 innings so far this season. Edgar Renteria gets a day off before the Tigers face back-to-back left-handed starters Tuesday and Wednesday. He’s batting .340 (16-for-47) against lefties this year, compared to .258 (49-for-190) versus righties. He’s also one of the few Tigers to see Jonathan Sanchez (1-for-2, double, two RBIs), and he’s 4-for-8 lifetime off Zito — though all of those at-bats against Zito came when he was pitching for Oakland. It also gets another left-handed bat in the lineup against Lincecum, not that it makes much difference (.228 vs. RH bats this year, .234 vs. LH batters).

Fernando Rodney is available in the bullpen, though Jim Leyland said before the game that he’d like to ease him in with an outing before throwing him into setup duty in a close situation.

Great matchup tonight.. sucks that i’m gonna have to stay up til after 1 watching this darn game.
A split on this roadtrip would be alright, but 4-2 is what they should be shooting for. If they win tonight that should be no problem.

Marcus is UNREAL!
4 Straight games with a HR..
Better than 1 every 10 at bats.
